Fun note to all #audiophiles #tubeamp users: from a technical POV your tube amp completely sucks!
And the reason why it still sounds sooo good is not the tubes, it's the output transformers!
Let me explain:
Most tube amps are Class A topology. That means they have a standby current (say 150 mA) and if they push it hard then the wave goes from 50mA (lowest value) to 250mA (highest value). Base current +- 100mA. With say 200V -> ~15W RMS.

Do any edgier horologists offer demagnetisation and cryogenic treatments for substantial timepieces owned by the wealthy?
And what about Peter Brock crystal-alignment upgrades for our favourite pig farmer's French clock collection?

can any #audiophiles on #mastodon recommend some good quality, affordable bluetooth headphones (or earbuds)? I'm in the market for a new pair and the last two models I've had (Bose AE2 Soundlink and Sony WH-CH720N) I've noticed dont have the best audio quality with my Samsung S24.
I will be moving away from Samsung with my next phone, but in the meantime I could really use a good pair of headphones for casual listening#audiophile #audiotech #music #headphones #earbuds #bluetooth

In a blind test, #audiophiles couldn't tell the difference between #audio signals sent through copper wire, a banana, or wet mud — 'mud should sound perfectly awful, but it doesn't'
Invited forum members to listen to clips with 4 different versions: one taken from original CD, others recorded through 180cm of pro audio copper wire, via 20cm of wet mud, through 120cm of old microphone cable soldered to US pennies, and via a 13cm banana, and 120cm of same setup as earlier.

Honestly, study of the year. Show this to every #HiFi head you know and ask them: can you tell the difference between copper, mud and a banana?

#Audiophiles or just people who know #audio or just know #headphones
I have a question or two I'd really appreciate input on!
Is it true that headsets with built-in mics are good neither at being mics nor headphones? And that buying even lower end dedicated mic and headphones is simply better?
And if that's true, would anyone have any recommendations for headphones that are a) comfortable to wear for long periods of time and b) have both wired and wireless connection
Well that and sound good, I guess, that's the whole point of it all -

Dear #audiophiles: I have inherited a collection of over 300 CDs from my father and would like to rip them to FLAC. What's the best tool for doing so in bulk today? Can be Linux or Windows; I'm happy to pay for software if it's significantly better than free options, but only if I can buy it outright (none of this subscription BS).

In case you thought I was joking, here's a thread on the use of T-slot aluminum to build stands. One caveat: hard core #audiophiles might consider the use of T-slot taboo. https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/80-20-t-slot-aluminium-extrusions-diy-audio-rack.31118/

Need some help from the #audiophiles here.
I bought a pair of B&W CM4 speakers for extremely cheap. They need a bit of TLC, but are in working condition.Does it make sense to use these with an AV receiver? It doesn't seem to be used commonly like that. Basically, I want it for TV/Movies, as well as music.
Would I need a dedicated subwoofer? Or would the speakers be enough?

Question for my audiophiles: anyone come across a usb-c DAC (like e.g. a Dragonfly) that does ANC too?

Just had an interaction with a Youtube commenter who was criticizing someone's Audio Technica LP120 as if they got a Crosley or something, and this dude had the nerve—the gall... the GUMPTION—to preface his response with "Not being an elitist, but[…]" before recommending that I compare it alongside a Linn LP12, which, in case your feet are a little too close to the ground, currently retails for about $20,000.
Well I stand corrected. They're not an elitist, I just haven't had the opportunity to hear just how good a record can sound on a player that costs about as much as a small car. I bet you it's *almost* as good as a CD!

Has anyone out there found a decent receiver to do whole room audio from a computer.
I have a 25x20 area that has a wall that goes down the middle and stops 3/4th of the way down so I want to put like 6 speakers around the entire building so my audio can be everywhere in the room, bonus points if I can set up channels and map audio between the two sides.
