  1. My is enabled now. I've used an and flashed their image following the instructions at github.com/protectli-root/prot. The boot from my usb flashdrive took longer than the flashing. It automatically found the proper image to flash. Protectli gear is good gear.

  2. @dallin

On my #chromebook #corebootbook laptops, I use #Cinnamon desktop environment and have tested the /etc/default/keyboard setting on #Devuan and #LinuxMint #Debian Edition.

Have tested on CANDY and PEPPY hardware models.

On the CANDY model, I could only get sound (internal audio) working with #Devuan, I didn't have success with any other Linux software distribution.

  3. I liberated an HP Chromebox G1 with CoreBoot using the MrChromeBox script.

Now running Artix Linux with KDE, as I'd like to get more experience with KDE. With the regular system update commands, the most recent KDE 6.6 that was just released last week was pulled down and installed without problems.

I also installed XLibre as a replacement for Xorg.

    So far, so good.

  4. Blog post for today

XFCE Corebootbook, almost, but not quite

    https://retroedge.tech/post-2023-01-11-xfce-issue-corebootbook.html

In which, I attempt to use XFCE on former Chromebook hardware and find a showstopping bug.

Mentioned @chaslinux in the blog post, as he inspired me to give XFCE a try. I do plan on doing more with XFCE, but it didn't work out for this project.

  5. I installed :void: #linux on a #coreboot Dell #chromebook last night. I think it's the first time I've installed void. It's install process is similar to #netbsd and I can see how void was inspired to some degree by #bsd.

I haven't used it much. Still learning how to use the xbps package manager and exploring the system.

I think there may be things built into #galliumOS that make the keyboard and trackpad work as they should. For sure that's with the keyboard, but I suspect the trackpad too.

  6. I've been doing more with #coreboot on Chromebook hardware. Liberated an Acer C740 with the mrchromebox.tech firmware. Now that I know how to do it, it's almost easy. Can be intimidating until you successfully flash one, though.

I've flashed two Dell Chromebook 11 3120 laptops to coreboot now and planning on doing a few more soon. I've been using one with #GalliumOS and it has been working well. Battery life is long, Gallium is practical and works as expected (#ubuntu-based so familiar).

  7. I was successful in flashing #CoreBoot to the Dell Chromebook 11 3120 laptop.

Now have #galliumOS installed and I'm testing it. So far, I'm impressed and liking it.

Okay performance for the specs and battery life is excellent.

  8. @patrik With the prebuilt Skulls distribution of coreboot for the X230 and the growig trend of #LVFS, I am sure that we will get there, yes. :)
If someone has the time, they could set up #coreboot on openSUSE's hosted Open Build Service with a few common payloads (#SeaBIOS for legacy boot and probably #TianoCore for those who already set up #UEFI #boot). There is already U-Boot, EDK II, ARM Trusted #Firmware and more at build.opensuse.org/project/sho where it would fit in.

  9. @Zuph You can also run #coreboot with #SeaBIOS and libgfxinit for a high-resolution #framebuffer, and then use a 32bit png image with my patches. Or render a demo if you hack a bit on the code. :)

  10. I have published my attempt to port #coreboot to #XMG #C404 / #Gigabyte #P34V2 in order to work around vendor #firmware issues:

    github.com/orangecms/coreboot/

If you are familiar with porting, feel free to help me out. :)

  11. @GossiTheDog even for gaming, windows is going out the door, with the advent of the steamdeck, and steam support being what it is today on linux.

and those chromebooks all run #coreboot or at least google's modified version of it. you can put #mrchromebox coreboot distro on it: docs.mrchromebox.tech/

doing this also lets you use normal linux distros really easily. and this is such a magnificent coup on google's part, getting coreboot into so many millions of computers in such a manner. bravo!

  12. Amazing conference in Rapperswil-Jona! 🇨🇭 NovaCustom was so glad to be at #NixCon25, where we showcased our laptops and mini PC with #coreboot firmware. 💻 I (Wessel) have met so many new people and learned that NovaCustom and @nixos_org have a lot of common values. A special thanks to Sebastian, who has been extremely helpful! 😃👍

  13. @matthew I love the idea of #framework so much, I just wish they'd give us a mobo with #coreboot or #dasharo, bonus points if #qubesos certified.

  15. We had a great experience at #DebConf25!

We brought our two laptop models and our brand new NUC Box with Dasharo coreboot firmware.

It was great to see how much recognition and interest there was. Between the tech talks and hallway chats, we really enjoyed the spirit of the Debian community.

🙏 Thanks to everyone who visited our stand!
📅 Any recommendations for other FOSS conferences we should join?
