I just finished my first QSO with VE3MJM Don on 2 m via VE3RCK repeater. Not a long distance between us, and especially as he was in the middle of some 30 m FT8 QSOs with operators in Japan, but pretty exciting for me anyway!

@stephanie @Artsandsocks We removed the grass in our front yard 20 years ago and went with a xeriscaped garden. The plant mix has changed over the years as the microclimate in our front garden has changed, but native plants are the way to go.

@erin Midnight at Chernobyl. History and analysis, both technical and political/social, of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. It’s long, but really interesting. The depth of hubris that led to the accident was decades-long and extended all the way to the top of the Soviet science hierarchy.

I’m trying to understand how safety functions executed using AI/ML technology could be validated. I’m looking for ways to check for deterministic behaviour. A project is being worked on in IEC/TC 65/SC65A and ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42, but it’s far from publication. The draft is pretty vague on many points. So, does anyone here have any thoughts on this topic?

I’m a long-time machinery safety practitioner, with a small consulting practice. I do a lot of different things, but in particular I specialize in risk assessment and functional safety. I’m looking forward to meeting people here, and discussing AI and functional safety in particular.

Over last weekend, a young woman working for Walmart in Halifax died in a baking oven that was on at the time. The investigation is ongoing, so we don't have a lot of detail, but here is what we know.

After seventeen classes, countless notes, and more than a few rediscovered fundamentals, I’m finally stepping back to reflect on the journey from curious newcomer to soon-to-be licensed amateur operator. This reflection captures what I learned, what surprised me, and why this experience has felt like coming home to the engineering roots that shaped my career.

My latest post in my series on studying for my Amateur Operating Certificate is up! Last night's class focused on station operation and was a BIG bite. I'm going to have to study this chapter a couple of times, I think, especially the Q-codes, which are stymying me.
