I was trying to find the "cancel" option for my Peacock subscription and getting quite frustrated. It seemed that they did such a good job hiding the account settings.
After several attempts, I was ready to come to social media and vent this frustration, when I suddenly stumbled across it in a pretty logical and obvious location.
Sometimes, users like me just overlook the obvious.

This week on STEAM Powered, our conversation is with Bec Nguyen, UX Research and Inclusive Digital Experience Specialist.
For many of my guests, the careers and fields that we're in now didn't exist or were just newly conceived when we were at university. So those indirect paths I often speak about were just a matter of course for us. Bec Nguyen is the director of Upbeat Digital and a specialist in UX in digital health.
Join us as we speak about her winding path to User Experience Design and design thinking as it grew as a space, building compassionate tech, and advocating for diverse voices no matter what industry you're in.

Ok, now I read it. Is this just Uncle Bob in a trenchcoat? Where are tech / computings unproblematic faves?

Really not loving the #UX decisions on things like TikTok/YouTube Shorts/etc., where videos autoplay muted. I can see the logic:
* Why make the user have to hit a button to start play? Watching a video is literally all this is URL for, just give them the video!
* But don't ever autoplay with sound. But the result is now I always have to hit *two* controls: first to unmute, then I've got to acquire the scrubber and drag it back to start (which is invariably nightmarish). #BadUX #BadUXDesign

I came up with a #UX refinement idea to solve a bunch of problems in #gitg's layout for author avatar & committer details: use real hyperlinks and combine the timestamps with their #git author/committer, which lets us reduce the number of rows from 4 to 2. Below is a proof of concept I have simulated using the GTK Inspector.
It'd be just some extra logic & markup, probably easy for a #GNOME newcomer to implement; a merge request would be welcomed. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gitg/-/issues/440 -
It's incredible to me just how many #banking applications have completely distinct user accounts for different parts of their system. Just setting up a new account now and it was the *third* login screen I found which was the correct one. The first two gave no indication I was on the wrong login either, they just didn't work.
I can only assume this is a product of #ConwaysLaw. It would be hilarious if it weren't so depressing.

Man, I mean, what do you expect, but…
I pay for Spotify to not get ads. I have for many years.
They have now made their injected podcast ads *unskippable.* They used to be -- your 15s skip buttons worked fine with them.
Now, they disable the buttons during these ads.
In fact, in the CarPlay app, it shows a >> Fast Forward button... that does nothing.
I just want to be able to control what goes in my eyes and ears, man.

I know I'm not a huge fan of change, but the new #LaunchDarkly interface is just awful. It took both me and a product owner a good while to figure out how to configure a switch.
24 hours ago, it was an instant and obvious process. -

Hi @petejohanson I just tried to order the 10u version of #revxlp but JLCPCB still cannot find mountingholes, in addition it now complained about some Uxxx parts - any suggestions?

@scottjenson This is fantastic. I am not surprised at all about the results of the study. Making text edits is brutal on a phone.
If you have any visual impairments, arthritis, low manual dexterity, or are out in the bright sun it is so frustrating.
Thanks for sharing. I just sent it to my teams!

Is it just me, or do you see that too? When using the #Mastodon #WebInterface, if you click on a follower the "Follows You" badge at the top left of the profile view (above their avatar) is black text on a nearly-black background?
That's probably not optimal.

New episode of #SystemsOfHarm just dropped 🎉
This week I’m talking to @LauraParkerUX about design systems and dyscalculia - a persistent difficulty in understanding numbers.
Apple: https://apple.co/3C3d0gY
Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3oDbCOQ
Around 6% of the population has dyscalculia, affecting their ability to do tasks like tell the time, deal with financial matters, and transpose reference numbers.
