Just learned that there are entire companies built around managing feature flags. There #AWS #AppConfig, #LaunchDarkly, #Optimizely and bunch of other vendors. Here I was, just simply defining the feature flag in code and just changing the config file to turn features on and off. What level of complexity does one need have for which you need a feature flag framework????!!!! #softwaredevelopment #webdev #webdevelopment

I've been a big fan of #LaunchDarkly for a while, but it is slowly heading in the direction of... Well enshittifcation i think is too strong a term, as it's still a solid product.
But it's so OTT / bloated when all i _really_ need is simple software switches! -

I know I'm not a huge fan of change, but the new #LaunchDarkly interface is just awful. It took both me and a product owner a good while to figure out how to configure a switch.

I believe #featureFlags (as implemented with services like #launchDarkly) are an #antiPattern; they are just a second set of #environmentVariables that need to be tested against. Just use env vars. Too many? There's your problem! #12factor
