This is a typical early morning feeding time at the #butterfly house at #Melbournezoo #Australia
The butterfly keepers put out feeders full of a glucose mix of water, acacia honey is a main ingredient - and other essential nutrients to mimic their natural feeding habitat.
They also provide flower cuttings from the surrounds, as can be seen here.
They’re happy little Vegemite’s!!

My ID app tells me this lovely plant is called a #BergeniaCrassifolia, a species of flowering plant of the genus Bergenia in the family Saxifragaceae.
A common name for the species include heart-leaved bergenia… or the heartleaf #bergenia.
Interesting naming fact; The species crassifolia means "thick-leaved", while the synonym Bergenia cordifolia means "cordate (heart-shaped) leaf".

The #WintonWetlands in #NorthEastVictoria #Australia is a vast 8750 hectare landscape that homes a large variety of #flora and #fauna including many species of birds and animals.
In 2016 as part of the ‘Wall to Wall street art festival’ in #Benalla, #GuidoVanHelten was commissioned to paint a water tank right in the middle of the wetlands.
The water tank portrays magnificent portraits of three local Country Fire Authority (#CFA) volunteers.

This #Illawarraflametree is just stunning.
There are half a dozen in various states of bloom in #Southbank #Australia atm (along the south side of Southbank Boulevard).
As their #summer cycle progresses, their leaves fall to reveal a sea of red flowering masses of brilliance.
These are humble sized trees compared with those growing in more northern territories eg in #NewSouthWales, but still a sight to behold!

Meet an #Illawarraflametree.
It is small by usual standards but I suspect it’s because it’s quite young and its ability to source water (due to being surrounded by bitumen) is likely another.
It is normally found in tropical and subtropical regions on the east coast of Australia. It is famous for the bright red bell-shaped flowers.
These flowers located in #collingwood #Australia appear more red with a touch of pink.
Just couldn’t pass up an opportunity to share!

The flame tree, or #Illawarraflametree is endemic to tropical and subtropical regions on the east coast of #Australia.
It is known for its distinctive bright red bell-shaped flowers that often cover the whole tree when it is leafless.
They’re not so prolific in #victoria, and I don’t believe they flower as abundantly here, as I’ve seen them in the more northern States (warmer, tropical climates) and they are stunning when in full bloom.
This one is just starting its seasonal flowering journey (plenty of buds in pic 3) and you can see a few of the bright red ‘bells’ fully emerging now.
I suspect this tree will be looking glorious in the next couple of weeks.

This is a City-circle #tram, that travels free around the #cbd. Looks like this ol rattler has undergone a recent renovation!

#Proteacynaroides, also called the #kingprotea, is a distinctive member of Protea, having, apparently… the largest flower head in the genus.
The species is widely distributed in the southwestern and southern parts of South Africa.
This one was growing in abundance in #OakleighSouth #Australia on a busy road and Ive been observing it from a far for a week now.
It’s now perfect for a glorious photograph or two. So I didn’t waste this opportunity to share this beauty.

#Leucadendronsalignum, also known as the #commonsunshineconebush, is a shrub that produces several stems from the ground of up to 2 metres (6.5 foot) high.
These have been featured previously here about a month ago, from #CaulfieldSouth #Australia and I thought I’d drop in on them to see how they were progressing.
Whilst no flowers to speak of, the tops of these beauties display a vibrant mix or reds and yellow shades that make them a delight to the eye.
These pictures are from three different bushes and I reckon they’re worthy of legendary status given their visually uplifting effect.

I stumbled on this quite unique growth, just this morning in #CaulfieldSouth #Australia.
It’s called Leucadendron salignum, also known as the #commonsunshineconebush.
It’s a shrub native to South Africa, that produces several stems from the ground. It is from the family Proteaceae.
It survives the wildfires that occur periodically in its native country, by regrowing from an underground rootstock.
Apparently this wonderful plant is pollinated by beetles 🪲
The red / scarlet colouring of the inside surfaces of its leaves are the most appealing aspect for mine.
This plant flowers (first one opening in pic 2), so I’ll definitely be back to post an update in a few weeks.

It is a Celosia argentea, commonly known as the #plumedcockscomb and is of tropical origin from India and Nepal.
The plant is known for its very bright colors. Not surprising!!
These are growing in abundance near #governmenthouse in #melbourne, #Australia with their #marigold buddies.
The red flowering growth presents as erect ‘feather like’ portions that almost look fluorescent in the sunshine.
Yes, they looked this glorious in real life.

These #Camellia are a little smaller than the many larger flowering heads that are blooming at the moment throughout #melbourne.
But are no less impressive.
Vibrant colours and green foliage are most likely, in part, attributed to the rains of late and the glimpses of winter sunshine throughout the past fortnight.
