A dashing fox nearly collided with me on my street corner, subsequently scaring the shit out of both of us.
Perhaps confused by the dawdling Moon, reluctant to farewell the night?

Before and After…
The first photo was snapped a month ago.
The second pic was taken prior to sunset the other night. This tree has just commenced blooming.
I plan on keeping an eye on this one and update you with its blooming evolution.
What a beautiful transformation… a gorgeous work in progress.

I took the first picture one month ago, ahead of this beauty blooming.
The remainder are pictures from now, late afternoon today!
I find it astounding how such flowering bloom can and does, grow in such a short time and with so much beauty and grace.
This is a #peach. For years I believed it to be cherry. So today, I learned something new about this gorgeous specimen!
(I’ve always noticed this tree but never had the opportunity to check for fruit, nor verified it’s identity). Time to remedy that, this year!!
I love this tree. #stunning.

The genus #Acacia belongs to the family Mimosaceae. There are some 1350 species of Acacia found throughout the world and close to 1000 of these are found in Australia.
Commonly known as #Wattle, Acacia is the largest genus of vascular plants in Australia.
Australia's national floral emblem is Acacia pycnantha, the Golden Wattle.
For those into botanic classifications, this one (pictured) is a #AcaciaPodalyriifolia

#PleromaUrvilleanum, also known as Tibouchina urvilleana, is a species of flowering plant native to Brazil.
It’s vibrant (and deep) purple petal shading is quite stunning in person and I am glad the camera reflected this.
Have a Super Sunday, whatever you’re up to!

#LigustrumJaponicum, known as #JapanesePrivet is a species of Ligustrum (privet) native to central and southern Japan.
The berries look good enough to eat, but I wouldn’t dare! Saying that, the fruits have been used in traditional medicinal practices and supplements in Korea and Japan.
I read with interest, that because of its extensive root system (grows prolifically when young), it can become evasive and grow and spread in numbers, competing with / eliminating other native shrubs and plants.

Just snapped this in #caulfieldsouth #Australia on this dry and pleasant #winter’s morning.
#SyzygiumSmithii is a summer-flowering, winter-fruiting evergreen tree, native to Australia and belonging to the myrtle family Myrtaceae.
It has a rough, woody bark; cream and green smooth, waxy leaves; (pink new growth in its flowering period) and white to maroon edible berries.
Beautiful!

These gorgeous plants, or ground dwelling shrubs are found in Victoria right through to northern Queensland, normally in open dry forest or heathland.
It’s is the #BanksiaSpinulosa, commonly known as the hairpin banksia.
These ones have been displaying like this for over two months now and their heads are quite woody (internally) with loads of rigid spikes, I guess you’d call them, that grow and form around the circumference.
These will remain as pictured, until early winter I read with interest.
I love the range of subtle colours and the fine detail of these things. Quite dry and firm to the touch.
And they’re growing in abundance, very happily indeed here, in #caulfieldsouth #melbourne #Australia.

Malva subovata, the #seamallow, is a species of flowering plant in the family Malvaceae, native to the shores of the western and central Mediterranean.
These flower profusely. I recall them years ago when I visited along the coastline of their natural habitat.
This beautiful, but sparse specimen in #caulfieldsouth #Australia, gives just enough to illustrate its flowering beauty.

These #azaleas are going gangbusters atm.
They flower from #autumn through winter, with their main flush in spring.
They’re only meant to be ‘spot flowering’ at present.
Love to revisit this hybrid beauty in the spring to see what a full-on flowering display looks like!
Did you know (cos I didn’t!) 🤔
Humans have, by way of manipulation, created over 10,000 azalea cultivars?

Some #Bougainvillea still flowering in brilliant purple amongst another green thing with buds I cannot quite make out.
But let’s just say, the local pollinators know what it is and are taking full advantage!
A few #bees let me get up oh so close, for long periods. They do have hairy legs!
Oh, btw…
Q. What’s a #bee’s favorite flower?
A. Bee-gonias!

More late blooming #yucca living a healthy and happy existence in #CaulfieldSouth #Australia.
These will soon soften, brown and fall away after another fortnight. They only seem to last a few weeks in bloom.
They provide such visual delight given the densely packed creamy-white bulbous flowers, atop the splaying green leaves of these magnificent structures.
Most exceed 3 metres (10 foot) in height.

#WoollyGrevillea is just a stunning floral specimen, don’t you think?
#Grevillea comes in so many shapes, sizes and forms.
This spreading shrub with narrowly linear leaves and clusters of pink to red, and cream-coloured flowers, are simply a delight.
So healthy too.
This species is endemic to south-eastern Australia

OMG!
It’s #camellia season!
#CamelliaSasanqua is a species of Camellia native to China and Japan.
This one is gorgeous and healthy. The leaves are characteristically shiny (some are waxy) and the deep pinks of the petals and yellows of the filament-anthers are something else.

Despite being late in our first month of #autumn here in #Australia, #flora is still abundant in its many colours. Here in #Melbourne, anyways.
This gorgeous rose bush is flowering still… in #CaulfieldSouth - the yellows with red-pink ‘splotches’ (technical term 😁) are too good to be true.

I’ve done a considerable search on this one. But… to no avail. There are heaps of varieties matching the leaf structure and colour (this time of year) but that’s about the extent of the similarities.
I thought it was some kind of ash, but the branches on this are unique with its dark, uneven, slender woody structures and black markings along the branch, every centimetre or so.
My dad planted one of these in the front garden. It is deciduous so it drops its leaves and leaves a gorgeous balanced network of upturned branches - I recall it’s structure as huge and imposing, as a kid.
And remember the knobbly network of branches, that this one will soon display.
I remember dad saying it needed loads of water during the summer due to its usual habitat being way different to ours in #melbourne.
But never to this day have I thought to research it’s name.
Any ideas? 🤔
Deciduous:
Deciduous trees are those that are seasonally adaptive, which results in a glorious rainbow of colour in autumn, typically from early March to the end of May.
They shed their leaves in preparation for winter, and leaves flourish again in late spring, changing from green to warmer shades again.

Gorgeous #Salvia #sage, is a perennial (enduring from season to season) native to Nuevo León, Mexico and parts of the United States including Texas and Oklahoma.
Rich with colour, these are growing happily in #caulfieldsouth #Australia.

#Leucadendronsalignum, also known as the #commonsunshineconebush, is a shrub that produces several stems from the ground of up to 2 metres (6.5 foot) high.
These have been featured previously here about a month ago, from #CaulfieldSouth #Australia and I thought I’d drop in on them to see how they were progressing.
Whilst no flowers to speak of, the tops of these beauties display a vibrant mix or reds and yellow shades that make them a delight to the eye.
These pictures are from three different bushes and I reckon they’re worthy of legendary status given their visually uplifting effect.

I stumbled on this quite unique growth, just this morning in #CaulfieldSouth #Australia.
It’s called Leucadendron salignum, also known as the #commonsunshineconebush.
It’s a shrub native to South Africa, that produces several stems from the ground. It is from the family Proteaceae.
It survives the wildfires that occur periodically in its native country, by regrowing from an underground rootstock.
Apparently this wonderful plant is pollinated by beetles 🪲
The red / scarlet colouring of the inside surfaces of its leaves are the most appealing aspect for mine.
This plant flowers (first one opening in pic 2), so I’ll definitely be back to post an update in a few weeks.

This is growing contentedly in #CaulfieldSouth #Australia.

A solemn art piece on a suburban wall (home) in #CaulfieldSouth #Australa… depicting, what I like to think of a boy waving. Not drowning.
However, there’s a poem called “Not Waving but Drowning" by the most famous poem by British poet Stevie Smith, and was first published in 1957.
The poem describes a drowning man whose frantic arm gestures are mistaken for waving by distant onlookers.
On a less literal level, the poem speaks to the isolation and pain of being misunderstood, and is a kind of parable about the distance between inner feelings and outward appearance.
If you notice someone struggling, ask them if they’re alright. And if they’re not, extend a loving hand, give them a call or take them out for coffee and try pull them free from their despair.
