Also, is it just me, or has Shame Jones started looking like one of the skeksis from The Dark Crystal?
https://www.beehive.govt.nz/minister/hon-shane-jones
I wonder where his gentle mystic half is hiding out, maybe Golden Bay or Coromandel? Maybe there's a Motherstone we could find and return the missing half of, so we can save old Otis Claw from this half-man state of being?

NZFirst are channelling their inner-Trump & doubling down on Shane Jones' attack on immigrant MPs.
Winston Peters reckons Green MPs Lawrence Xu-Nan and Francisco Hernandez should "show some gratitude" for being in New Zealand. Negativity, meet ignorance.
And where's our PM when he's needed? Is he terrified of criticising his coalition partners, or is he just way out of his depth again?
Xenophobes Peters & Jones truly are yesterday's men.

Shane Jones is a blustering fool. In a May meeting with his seafood industry mates, Jones demeaned High Court Judge Cheryl Gwyn, who has awarded Customary Marine Titles to Māori. Jones called her a “Communist Judge”.
The Cabinet Manual states that ministers should not express any views... reflecting adversely on the impartiality, personal views, or ability of any judge.
Luxon "doesn’t believe it is a Cabinet Manual matter".
Meh!

CW: Santana Bendigo mine fast-track / Shane Jones is a wanker
The Minister of Environmental Destruction Shane Jones doesn't like critics. After several prominent Otago people opposed Santana's fast track to Hades, Jones offered to debate Ian Taylor in public.
The gauntlet was thrown and Taylor agreed. The debate was scheduled for April 8th at Taylor's studios and would be streamed by the ODT and Stuff.
Today Jones pulled out of the deal, saying he would not take part in any debate ‘"controlled by the Otago media".
Since when has Stuff been an Otago media company?
Santana plans a cyanide-leach gold operation storing arsenic-bearing tailings in a dam located in a seismically active region at the headwaters of major water systems.
It's a project which would never be approved under 'normal' conditions and Jones has realised that he'll lose any public debate with Taylor. So the blowhard Minister is running away.
This reminds me of the time Shane Jones got caught charging hotel porn to his ministerial expenses. The guy's been an utter wanker for decades.
Taylor says the debate will go ahead anyway using a cardboard cut-out of Jones.

My cartoon in today's https://www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/350442881/cartoon-october-8
The fast-track bill has 149 projects on it... some good, of course, but some... definitely not good. Not good in the slightest.

Central Otago mayor Tamah Alley takes issue with Shane Jones' claim that the region was ripe for mining because it's "largely empty". Her response?
"Largely empty is not available everywhere."

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day ...
"No one will be any doubt that the days of treating energy prices as a private commodity and expecting the market to save New Zealand jobs and regional New Zealand, that type of folly in our view, has run its course."
#ShaneJones, 2025
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/572613/shane-jones-calls-for-renationalising-of-power-market
The solution though is not fast tracking more coal and gas, but taking advantage of how easy and *cheap* it is to decentralise renewables compared to building thermal generation.

Has Shane Jones gone on a bender?
OceanaGold wants to expand its Macraes mining operation. However based on scientific assessments, the Otago Regional Council has recommended the application be declined in full.
So the Minister for Masturbation let fly, suggesting the council is packed with communists. He referred to the ORC as "the Kremlin of the South Island" and claimed the council was full of "KGB green zealots"... "Politburo apparatchiks destroying hundreds of jobs".
Poor Shane. As he sees it, his role as Minister of environmental destruction is being challenged. Poor snowflake.
The ORC maintains the moral high ground. "It is a technical, evidence-based assessment — not a political statement." "Our staff are simply doing their jobs within the law as it stands. Name-calling only undermines confidence in both central and local government."
Jones wants to kill the regional councils so all mining decisions stay with him. He reckons other mining companies should simply use the fast-track process to bypass these silly environmental laws.
Shane Jones is still an utter wanker.

The oil-sniffing oik who is NZ's "resources minister" wants to break up the Department of Conservation and open up protected land for exploitation.
Luxon's leadership failure bestows these fringe extractionists with more power than they deserve. While acting like the fifth horseman of the apocalypse, Shane Jones only received 18% of his electorate vote and came in on the list for the 6% party.
Unless Luxon grows a spine, it's 'Burn baby, burn' for NZ First.
All the way to hell.

This ODT editorial has the intriguing title of "A moth in the night", but it's really about Shane Jones.
One little rare and "nationally vulnerable" native moth has thrown a spanner in Macraes' gold mine expansion plans.

Shane Jones and a large entourage flew to the Chatham Islands today to see what the islanders need.
While nobody asked for one, Jones himself suggested they should get a “mobile abattoir.” He told them to put in a pitch, with urgency, to his $1.2 billion Regional Development Slush Fund.
"He (Jones) dismissed questions about the propriety of the minister in charge of judging funding pitches giving his own idea for a pitch."
Of course he did.

This "assault" on Shane Jones' wife Dot sounds almost manufactured.
Yes, a man yelled abuse at Shane Jones. Who wouldn't, given the chance. Dot claims she "went to place her hand between the two and told the man to go away." Yeah, right. 'Go away, man!'
But the next piece is probably more accurate.
“His nose hit my palm and he said I assaulted him and he wanted my name.”
“His nose hit my palm..."
The security footage will be revealing.

The Minister for Not Giving a Fuck Shane Jones is still ignoring the law. He met with three SI mayors and it's not recorded in his ministerial diary. Dunedin Hospital was discussed. Jones claimed "it was a meeting with NZ First members" but ODT calls that a lie.
Oddly, the ODT appears to have pulled this story as I'm writing. "You are not authorised to access this page."
Legal threats, anyone?

"Can you also contemplate the appropriateness of recent immigrants telling Māori what the name of our country should be?"
#ShaneJones, 2025
This is such a weird comment. On the face of it, it calls into question calling the country by a label on a map made by a Dutch guy, who never even set foot here. Yet Jones is saying it in defence of that historically very recent naming convention.

When Shane Jones says "I've had some of the most exciting nocturnal experiences with the Latin American people," is he talking about watching Brazilian porn?

The problem is that #ShaneJones is a wanker, & wankers love to vote for other wankers so they can vicariously enjoy the wankery.
Unfortunately #GerryBrowlee, the only person who can really do anything about the wanking is, himself, a wanker

"I am the Minister of Resources. I look forward to leading the debate, changing the law, enabling gas and oil exploration - wealth development - to take place yet again in NZ. Mining is coming back as well, and if there is a mineral, if there is a mining opportunity, and it's impeded by a blind frog, goodbye freddy."

Oh and PPS;
“It’s not lost on me that there are inordinately large competing demands on our infrastructure spend, but there are other ways to boost resilience, not the least of which is getting the oil companies working with Channel to increase onshore holding capacity.”
#ShaneJones, 2024
https://newsroom.co.nz/2024/02/08/nz-firsts-doomed-deal-to-reopen-marsden-point-refinery/
Another way to boost resilience is to reduce the fossil fuel dependence of our transport infrastructure as quickly as possible. Which the new govt is doing nothing much about.
