'What Andrea #Vance said in The Post today:
'Andrea Vance: If a foreign diplomat can stand up to Peters, why can’t #Luxon?
    'OPINION: ...
'Only weeks ago, #NZFirst proposed stripping around half a million permanent residents of voting rights. Last month its #Mumbai-born Upper Harbour #candidate Bernadette Soares suggested temporarily closing the border to migrants.
'...In April deputy leader #ShaneJones dismissed a trade deal with #India by saying he didn't want a “butter chicken tsunami” coming to New Zealand.
'Do not diminish any of this as empty parliamentary theatre.
'This is the exact playbook of Donald #Trump’s #MAGA movement. That is precisely how the rhetoric took root in the United States: first non-white #migrants were scapegoated and their #loyalty questioned, #voting rights were stripped, then border control was militarised, ICE raids become routine, and the civic fabric of a nation was torn apart.
'To secure his own #political survival, Peters is dragging New Zealand down the same toxic path as the US and the UK, actively importing hyper-polarisation and fracturing social cohesion until the country becomes as divided and ungovernable as Washington or Westminster.

'Its also straight out of another playbook: Peters’ own campaign manual.
He has long understood the value of provoking governing partners into overreacting and then presenting himself as the aggrieved victim.
'Which leaves Christopher Luxon with a problem of his own making.
'By failing to draw a line early in the coalition, he allowed Peters to define where the line sits. Sack him now and Peters claims martyrdom. Keep him, and Luxon owns both the behaviour and the message it sends.

NZPol still has so much to give the world.

  5. CW: Did God send a message to Shane Jones?

Shane Jones spoke to 250 party faithful in Oamaru yesterday, promising that NZ First would abolish the Waitangi Tribunal, scrap regional councils and take the country out of ‘‘climate change hysteria’’.

Within 12 hours Oamaru flooded because of climate change.

  7. CW: NZPol - Shane "Trougher" Jones caught again

Both Shane Jones and Winston Peters are avoiding difficult questions about Jones' outrageous expenses for his Toronto mining junket.

So Stuff is now querying why he chose to fly Qantas rather than AirNZ, even though Kangaroo Air costs three grand more. Jones replied in gobbledygook.

So Stuff is running a competition, but it's for registered users only.

    * Be Shane for a day! WIN your own private limo on standby for a day *

  9. CW: NZPol - Shane "Trougher" Jones caught again

Following criticism of Shane Jones having a limo on 24/7 standby during a Toronto mining conference, Stuff has been doing some digging.

Not only was Jones' hotel next door to the conference centre, there's internal access between the two buildings. But no... Jones wanted to play like a VIP and arrive by limo, dropping $4k Canadian... at our expense.

It seems like he spent all three days at the conference, because Jones' office refuses to supply his schedule and the man himself claims he can't even remember which hotel he stayed at. You'd have to hope that the $1,674.69 per night room rate included complimentary porn.

And nice touch Stuff headline writer referring to "Shane ‘Stretch’ Jones".

  15. CW: Santana Bendigo mine fast-track / Shane Jones is a wanker

The Minister of Environmental Destruction Shane Jones doesn't like critics. After several prominent Otago people opposed Santana's fast track to Hades, Jones offered to debate Ian Taylor in public.

The gauntlet was thrown and Taylor agreed. The debate was scheduled for April 8th at Taylor's studios and would be streamed by the ODT and Stuff.

Today Jones pulled out of the deal, saying he would not take part in any debate ‘"controlled by the Otago media".

Since when has Stuff been an Otago media company?

Santana plans a cyanide-leach gold operation storing arsenic-bearing tailings in a dam located in a seismically active region at the headwaters of major water systems.

It's a project which would never be approved under 'normal' conditions and Jones has realised that he'll lose any public debate with Taylor. So the blowhard Minister is running away.

This reminds me of the time Shane Jones got caught charging hotel porn to his ministerial expenses. The guy's been an utter wanker for decades.

Taylor says the debate will go ahead anyway using a cardboard cut-out of Jones.

  21. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day ...

"No one will be any doubt that the days of treating energy prices as a private commodity and expecting the market to save New Zealand jobs and regional New Zealand, that type of folly in our view, has run its course."

    #ShaneJones, 2025

    rnz.co.nz/news/political/57261

The solution though is not fast tracking more coal and gas, but taking advantage of how easy and *cheap* it is to decentralise renewables compared to building thermal generation.

  23. Has Shane Jones gone on a bender?

OceanaGold wants to expand its Macraes mining operation. However based on scientific assessments, the Otago Regional Council has recommended the application be declined in full.

So the Minister for Masturbation let fly, suggesting the council is packed with communists. He referred to the ORC as "the Kremlin of the South Island" and claimed the council was full of "KGB green zealots"... "Politburo apparatchiks destroying hundreds of jobs".

Poor Shane. As he sees it, his role as Minister of environmental destruction is being challenged. Poor snowflake.

The ORC maintains the moral high ground. "It is a technical, evidence-based assessment — not a political statement." "Our staff are simply doing their jobs within the law as it stands. Name-calling only undermines confidence in both central and local government."

Jones wants to kill the regional councils so all mining decisions stay with him. He reckons other mining companies should simply use the fast-track process to bypass these silly environmental laws.

Shane Jones is still an utter wanker.

  25. The oil-sniffing oik who is NZ's "resources minister" wants to break up the Department of Conservation and open up protected land for exploitation.

Luxon's leadership failure bestows these fringe extractionists with more power than they deserve. While acting like the fifth horseman of the apocalypse, Shane Jones only received 18% of his electorate vote and came in on the list for the 6% party.

  29. Shane Jones and a large entourage flew to the Chatham Islands today to see what the islanders need.

While nobody asked for one, Jones himself suggested they should get a “mobile abattoir.” He told them to put in a pitch, with urgency, to his $1.2 billion Regional Development Slush Fund.

"He (Jones) dismissed questions about the propriety of the minister in charge of judging funding pitches giving his own idea for a pitch."

    Of course he did.

Yes, a man yelled abuse at Shane Jones. Who wouldn't, given the chance. Dot claims she "went to place her hand between the two and told the man to go away." Yeah, right. 'Go away, man!'
