A #StateFuneral funeral for the founder of #Bendigo's #GoldenDragonMuseum, #RussellJack AM, will be held on Saturday, August 29, at Bendigo's Ulumbarra Theatre from 11am.
The funeral will be followed by a traditional #Cantonese mourning lion ceremony at Bendigo Cemetery.
Mr Jack died on August 11. -

I was very saddened to hear that this lovely timber church in #Bendigo was damaged by fire late last week - fortunately the blaze was contained very quickly by #CFA firefighters and the damage can, I believe, be repaired.

My new short piece for #trumpet and #organ, ‘Backhaus Introit’ is having simultaneous premieres in Australia and Germany in July. It was commissioned by Bendigo Fine Music for its Keys of Gold Festival, to honour Dr Henry Backhaus, the first Catholic priest to serve in the goldfields. He founded St Kilian’s, #Bendigo, where the Australian premiere will happen) and paid for its organ. He was also a composer, so I have used a couple of his melodic ideas as tribute.

CW: NZ mining - Santana refuses to supply important data
Australian company Santana wants to build a toxic gold mine on Bendigo Station in Central Otago. Their application is in the final stages of fast-track hearings.
The fast-track panel has requested important information from Santana including "a cumulative drawdown assessment of the Bendigo aquifer; assessment of wetland hydrological functions; transient water load balance modelling; active water treatment design; passive water treatment concept and design; and design of uncaptured seepage system."
Santana, led by an Aussie cooker says 'Nah! You grant us consent first, and THEN we'll provide that info.'
That's not how it works. You'd have to hope that their belligerent attitude sees Santana's bid dead in the water.

CW: Santana Bendigo mine fast-track / Shane Jones is a wanker
The Minister of Environmental Destruction Shane Jones doesn't like critics. After several prominent Otago people opposed Santana's fast track to Hades, Jones offered to debate Ian Taylor in public.
The gauntlet was thrown and Taylor agreed. The debate was scheduled for April 8th at Taylor's studios and would be streamed by the ODT and Stuff.
Today Jones pulled out of the deal, saying he would not take part in any debate ‘"controlled by the Otago media".
Since when has Stuff been an Otago media company?
Santana plans a cyanide-leach gold operation storing arsenic-bearing tailings in a dam located in a seismically active region at the headwaters of major water systems.
It's a project which would never be approved under 'normal' conditions and Jones has realised that he'll lose any public debate with Taylor. So the blowhard Minister is running away.
This reminds me of the time Shane Jones got caught charging hotel porn to his ministerial expenses. The guy's been an utter wanker for decades.
Taylor says the debate will go ahead anyway using a cardboard cut-out of Jones.
