Gisteravond een hele leuke #whiskyproeverij gehad in het rennerskwartier van Kartplaza Actionworld van Sjaak van Dijk in #Nijverdal.
Zelfs de dames dronken fanatiek mee. Favoriet van de avond waren de #Kavalan, de #Tomintoul 16yo en de Heavily peated #PortCharlotte 10yo. #Topavond!

#CaolIla 9yo single cask #WhiskyAdvent sample, without a splash of water: eugh. what is this nasty, briny, peaty nonsense? no thank u, clearly peaty #whisky still ain't for me.
The same, with a moderate splash of water: whoa. this is completely different now? it's /almost/ good!
Likely the most stark change of character (nose and palate alike) in a dram from adding water, that I've yet experienced. Usually it is /far/ more subtle!

It's #Penderyn, a #Welsh #whisky distilled by a team of women (I wonder how common this is? surely not very?) and often using Madeira wine casks. I think this one did too as it would account for the super bright/acidic/sweet flavor.
I've never tasted any whisky like this! I'll be keeping my eye on Penderyn.

Dat was gister wederom een zeer geslaagde whiskyavond bij PLUS van Reijen in #Veldhoven. De meest verrassende whisky's waren de Johnnie Walker en de Lagavulin 12yo.
De deelnemers proefden:
Johnnie Walker Green Label blended malt
Jura Whisky Bourbon Cask single malt
Talisker Port Ruighe - peated single malt

#SpektrumDerWissenschaft lädt mich zu einem #WhiskyTasting mit @Fischblog ein. Das hört sich prinzipiell sehr interessant an, aber es findet leider online und nicht in Heidelberg statt.
Das Format hatte ich bei @penninger während Corona ausprobiert. Da fehlt mir die in-persona-Komponente, wie ich bei einem #GinTasting in Behringersmühle herausfand.
Ich wünsche allen Teilnehmern eine tolle Veranstaltung!

Elise and I attended a very interesting #whiskytasting last night at #SlijterijBerendsen in #Enschede. Whiskydistiller #MarkReynier, former owner of #MurrayMcDavid and #Bruichladdich and now owner of the Irish #WaterfordDistillery, told his view on whiskymaking and that was different then we ever heard before. The theory of mister Reynier over how important #terroir is in #barley and in the end of all flavours in the whiskybottle. Read more:
