Port Ellen, the only significant settlement on the island of Islay's south coast and the island's main deep water harbour. I cleaned out my #wardrobe over the weekend. Now, I ask myself: Will my 'need for tweed' ever be satisfied? So far, I own four sports jackets, two waistcoats, and two overcoats. Not to mention my three flat caps. They are all #Harris, #Moon, or #Donegal #tweed, all vintage, and made in England. I thrifted them at various places.

This is still healthy, and completely normal, yes? I mean, I'm still missing a proper three-piece suit. And then there's #Islay tweed …

#Islay is the home to my favorite Whiskies. #Lagavulin tops my list, but #Laphroaig and #Ardbeg are also fantastic! Just across the little bay from Lagavulin is the ruins of Dunyvaig Castle.

Leaving the Carraig Fhada lighthouse we headed to the Singing Sands beach. I'm not sure why it is called that, but it is beautiful. There are plenty of rocky outcroppings coming up out of the sand, and the water is clear and blue - almost looks like the Caribbean. #Scotland #Islay

@sinabhfuil Yes, always #NauticalMiles. Iona Harbour to Ballycastle is 69.6NM. If you are on a typical ~40ft sailboat, you should expect to average around 5kts/hour, so 14-15 hours. Better to do an overnight in #Islay then slog on through - also need to take the tides into account getting down. #RatlinIsland is also a nice little stop just before #Ballycastle

Do #sailors always use #nautical miles rather than kilometres? #NauticalMiles
I ask because I was wondering how long it would take to sail from #Iona to #Ballycastle - apparently about 15 hours; maybe a two-day trip with a short rest at #Islay

Off to an event for Laphroaig tonight. I always say that I love it (and Islay drams in general) but it occurs to me that I've not actually had any in a few years now.

Will I *still* like it or will its briny iodine smoke slap me around the chops and poke a finger in my eye?
