BBC News: When and where to see the solar eclipse in Scotland

My memory of the one 30+ years ago the entire company traipsed outside in the afternoon to to see it with various bits of cardboard, camcorder viewfinders etc but ultimately disappointing seemed over pretty quickly. Do we ever really get the dramatic pitch black version in Glasgow?

Something mulling after Tomintoul trip in July. Striking this year how many more (than usual) German and continental europe tourists there were. Those only for Highland Games day often came in campervans.

Wonder if Scotland's tourist industry might experience a boost from others seeking respite from places "too hot" to enjoy in summer? (Our own Cairngorms wildfires notwithstanding)

Are tourists now actively seeking out cooler destinations in summer?🤔

Think this was part of the Duke of Gordon's original "plan" for Tomintoul - a planned village. Big cross through it, guess there must be a plan b later somewhere. Main Street ended up being over a mile long.

A 2 day trip with Moray to explore above the Ailnack Gorge in the Cairngorms. Wow, it's Scotland's biggest glacial meltwater channel, at 10km long & over 100m deep in places. Most of the way no path, just following sheep tracks or ploughing through heather or bog. Quite tricky to photograph that sort of scenery and also get a dog (safely) in the pic. We camped upstream where it was safe to descend & cross.

Shame about the teething problems which I hope get resolved but the houses are innovative in their own way as buildings in character with the older surroundings and people weren't allowed to buy them as second homes. Badly needed modern housing in rural Scotland.
