A rare bottle of whisky has broken the record for the most expensive wine or spirit sold at auction.

The Macallan 1926 single malt is one of the world's “most sought-after" bottles of Scotch whisky.

It was sold by Sotheby's on Saturday at more than double its estimated price, for a record £2.1 million (€2.4 million).

A bottle of what Sotheby’s is calling “the most sought-after Scotch whisky” is set to go up for auction next month, with an estimated price of up to €1.3 million.

The auction house said the 96-year-old bottle of single malt from distiller Macallan - The Macallan Adami 1926 - will come under the hammer in London on 18 November.

For today’s #MouseBar I had 2 drams left over from last year’s single-cask advent calendar: a Glen Moray 13 year, and a GlenAllachie 12 year, both amazing in different ways.

The Glen Moray was smooth and nutty with a long sweet chocolate finish, and the GlenAllachie was an oloroso fruit bomb with tons of depth.

So good.

Tonight’s dram is an Inchgower 10 Year from Berry Bros. and Rudd. Wow, delicious! Vanilla and oak, and red fruit, with just a little of spice as it fades on the tongue, with a little bit of a tobacco finish.

When you open the bottle, the smell of smoke welcomes you. It's a salty welcoming smokey smell.

I poured it on my glass initially, then waited a couple of minutes for the alcohol to pour. I didn't apply any ice or other elements. Tasted directly.

Initial tastes: Woah, it's smokey and salty, I like salt and smoke, but I thought the combo would be bad, however...I'm .... loving it ?
