The Macallan cierra The Harmony Collection con un single malt inspirado en el coco fresco

The Macallan presenta Inspired by Fresh Coconut, el sexto y último lanzamiento de The Harmony Collection, un single malt de 46.3% ABV cuyas notas de coco provienen de la maduración en barricas de roble americano.

The Macallan presentó Inspired by Fresh Coconut, un single malt de 46.3% ABV que constituye el sexto y último capítulo de The Harmony Collection, serie con la que la marca exploró durante varios lanzamientos la relación entre whisky, naturaleza, creatividad y nuevas formas de aprovechamiento de materiales.

La característica central de esta edición es un perfil de coco que, de acuerdo con la casa escocesa, no proviene de la incorporación de este fruto al whisky. Las notas aparecen de manera natural durante la maduración, a partir de las propiedades del roble de las barricas seleccionadas por el equipo de Whisky Mastery.

El lanzamiento forma parte de un cierre más amplio para The Harmony Collection: el capítulo final contempla dos expresiones, Inspired by Fresh Coconut e Inspired by Toasted Coconut, concebidas para explorar dos perfiles distintos del mismo ingrediente aromático.

El coco surge de la maduración

Para Inspired by Fresh Coconut, The Macallan recurrió a una selección de barricas de roble americano sazonadas con jerez y barricas que previamente contuvieron bourbon. La interacción entre el whisky y la madera permite desarrollar las características de coco que definen esta expresión.

La propia marca explica que los niveles de lactonas presentes en el roble americano contribuyen al desarrollo de este perfil aromático durante la maduración. El resultado busca llevar una nota poco habitual en los single malts de la casa hacia el centro de la experiencia sin desplazar el resto de sus características.

En nariz aparecen coco fresco, cítricos y frutas tropicales, acompañados por vainilla, roble dulce y especias suaves. En boca se perciben coco, leche de coco, lima y una dulzura ligera, con un final de carácter floral.

Una colección que termina donde comenzó

El cierre de The Harmony Collection también recupera el vínculo con The Macallan Estate, propiedad de la marca donde se encuentra su destilería en Escocia. La propuesta se extiende al ámbito gastronómico mediante TimeSpirit Dining Experience, colaboración desarrollada con El Celler de Can Roca.

El chef pastelero Jordi Roca creó preparaciones dulces inspiradas en el perfil de coco del whisky. La propuesta incluye distintas combinaciones de sabores y texturas diseñadas para acompañar la expresión y explorar el single malt desde una perspectiva gastronómica.

La relación entre The Macallan y los hermanos Roca se extiende por más de una década y ha dado lugar a distintas colaboraciones alrededor del whisky, el chocolate, la gastronomía y la creatividad.

Un empaque elaborado con residuos de coco

La exploración de materiales naturales también forma parte del último capítulo de la colección. El estuche de Inspired by Fresh Coconut incorpora fibras de coco descartadas, que reciben un nuevo uso como parte del material empleado para su presentación.

Según The Macallan, las fibras y cáscaras de coco son sometidas a un proceso de combustión sin emisiones para producir carbón, utilizado posteriormente para aportar una tonalidad negra natural al papel del empaque. La iniciativa continúa la línea de The Harmony Collection de incorporar subproductos naturales en sus soluciones de presentación. –sn–

A wee treat tonight.

Ardnamurchan Tokaji finish, NC, NCF, 52%, distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2026.

So much orchard fruit on the nose: bright green apple and pear, with hints of tropical banana and floral notes. Silky and rounded on the tongue, with stone fruit, sweet spice, a touch of saltiness and gentle oakiness. Lingering honey and peach, with a slightly peppery finish.

If you missed out on the 38 Special, I'm sorry. I love rye, and this dark pumpernickel is fantastic. Just different from other ryes and very interesting, a great dram. Middle West does have a pumpernickel rye in their core lineup, which is also great, as long as you can catch it when it is in stock. They sell out fast

We tried these at the recent Middle West Whisk(e)y Wednesday at Julio's Liquors, and everything was great. I tried to be responsible and limit myself, but I did also end up grabbing their Double Cask Collection Ported Pumpernickel Rye. This is their pumpernickel rye that gets secondary aging in French tawny port casks.

The port brings a whole different depth and experience. I wouldn't say better or worse, just different. I really enjoyed both - obviously, given I bought both - but your palate may vary.

And this past week's WW was Maker's Mark, and we all brought home a 375ml of the standard Maker's Mark Bourbon. It's a solid bourbon, can't complain.

I was also over at Burlington Wine recently for a rum event and picked up a couple of bottles that had arrived since the last time I was there. They're both independent bottlings of Hampden Estate Rum, a favorite of mine.

Raising Glasses & Nobilis Rum Papilio 6-year Single Cask, Cask Strength Rum

The Papilio is the C<>H (C Diamond H) mark, the 7th heaviest out of the eight marks Hampden distills, so it has some character. You don't often see the heavier marks bottled outside of a blend. The 1998 HD is HLCF (Hampden Light Continental Flavored), the fourth of the eight marks, and one that is quite commonly bottled by itself.

The recent annual Go! Whiskey Week at Julio's Liquors resulted in a few additions to my collection.

I really dug the flavor of Dark Arts Whiskey A Long Strange Drip, a honey-cask finished blend of sweet- and sour-mash Bourbon. A great honey flavor without being cloying. The best honey finish I've tried.

The Laphroaig 10 came with admission to the tasting with Simon Brooking, which is always a great time. A legend.

I brought a few bottles to the Cotswolds Distillery tasting, and Kerrin Egalka was kind enough to gift me the open bottle of Madeira Cask. It is always a pleasure to have Kerrin come around, and Cotswolds is doing amazing work. I hope to get over and visit the distillery at some point.

I also picked up the latest book from the always entertaining Robin Robinson. Now I just need work to calm down so I can find some down time to enjoy it.

A weekend rammed with sport kicks off tonight with Scottish Championship Football, and tomorrow is 6 Nations Super Saturday, with all six teams playing and Scotland in with a shout of being tournament winners. Sunday and it's the Chinese Grand Prix.

Need to ca' canny tonight as friends are around tomorrow to watch the rugby, and it will be a long day! So, a couple of wee ones.

Cadenhead's Ardnamurchan 5, NC, NCF, 58.1% ABV

Wonderful sweet cherries, strawberries, red currants, and a touch of earthy dunnage. Rich, thick, and mouth-coating, mulled wine with cinnamon, cloves, orange peel, and more dark fruit. Jammy with a slight savouriness. Despite its youth and high ABV, there is no alcohol burn. It is beautifully smooth and quaffable. The cask must have been really active, as the depth of flavour and complexity is astonishing.

This is a real beauty.

So ca. 1995 hatte ich eine Schwäche für #whisky und aus dieser Zeit sind mir ein paar Reste geblieben, die jede Übersiedlung mitgemacht haben und seither in jeder Wohnung Platz verstellen.

I've just finished watching a great Podcast with Ardnamurchan's Carl Crafts, so for the first dram of the weekend it can only be one thing:

AD 2014 CK233, unpeated, Concerto barley from Broomhall Farm, matured in ex-Oloroso, Spanish Oak, 53.4%. And thanks to Kelly and Holly for filling the bottle - I love the detailed information you get on a bottle of Ardnamurchan 😀

Loads of red fruit on the nose: strawberries, raspberries and a touch of black cherry. Pencil shavings. More juicy red fruit on the palate with sticky raisins, liquorice and black treacle, sweet, cinnamon-spiced apple finish.

Wonderful!
