Some new arrivals from Drammers Club / Drinqy. The recent online Kavalan Whisky tasting included a bottle of the No.1 Distillery Select. It hadn't arrived at the time, so it just shipped, and they offered free shipping on any other bottles added to the shipment, so I pulled the trigger on a few I'd been thinking about.
Compass Box Whisky Glasgow Blend Single Marrying Cask, 'Drammers Club #87'. This was married in an ex-Cameronbridge Lowland Single Grain Cask.
Tenmile Distillery Little Rest American Single Malt Whisky, Double Matured Cask Strength, Batch 002. Tenmile is doing some great things over in Wassaic, NY. And I'm always happy to support my friend Melissa.
FEW Spirits Immortal Rye - Rye Whiskey with Eight Immortals Oolong Tea. You may notice this bottle is opened, as we had a gathering on Saturday - and this shipment happened to arrive earlier that day.
I picked this up as my friend Marc is the distiller at our local Nashoba Valley Spirits, and creator of their own tea-infused bourbon and single malt whisky. So when I saw this I wanted to compare a tea-infused rye. I have to say, the tea influence is very faint here. It isn't a bad pour, but I don't think I'd guess there was tea if I didn't know. I prefer our local offerings.
And then yesterday another box showed up from the UK with a very special rum. Black Tot Rum Rare Old Natural Cask Strength Demerara Rum, Aged 40 Years. This is Demerara Rum distilled in Guyana in 1975, and was the heart of the blended rum served by the Royal Navy until 1970. It will be interesting to compare this with The Last Consignment.

My (catching-up) cocktail pie for August: Rusty Nail Galette.
A Rusty Nail contains Scottish whisky and Drambuie.
My pie is a Drambuie shortcrust galette with a honey-peach filling, topped with a butter whisky syrup.
The peaches are summery but the warm spices have helped make this one feel slighly more attuned to our present season!

There are some auction sites which won't ship to MA, so I have to have them sent to a very kind friend in CT who is willing to accept shipments on my behalf. He's been holding a few for me for a while, and we were able to meet up today at WhiskyMentors in Canterbury, CT.
All told I brought home 14 bottles from auctions, and one I picked up while I was there. I'll break it up into separate posts.
The last whisky in the lot is an eight year old German Single Grain from Finch. I'd originally picked this up intending to use it at a German-themed tasting we did in October, but shipping delays meant it didn't arrive in time.
It wasn't all whisky, either.
I picked up a bottle of Don Julio Tequila 1942 because I like it and it was a good deal I spotted while bidding on other lots.
And the rest is rum.
I picked up four bottles of Black Tot Rum - a Finest Caribbean and three of four extant Master Blender's Reserve releases - 2022, 2023, and 2024. The 2021 is still out there. I was inspired to pick these up after seeing The Rum Revival talk about them on YouTube.
And, last but not least, while I was at Whisky Mentors, aka Canterbury Liquors, I picked up a store pick Mad River Distillers Double Barrel Rum - QS01 Reminiscent.

December's cocktail pie - Christmas in Manhattan Pie
A Christmas in Manhattan contains bourbon, vermouth, ango and white creme de cacao.
My pie is a sweet shortcrust pastry, with white chocolate cheesecake filling, topped with Manhattan cherry compote.

I combined Burns Supper elements with the most Scottish food of all: a macaroni pie.

I like to take a photograph of every #whisky I drink and I keep a note of the ones that I like and the ones that didn't quite hit the spot. This year I have tried nearly 200 whiskies and the outstanding ones for me were a 14 y/o Glen Garioch from Independent Bottlers "Tri Carragh", a Deanston 10 y/o Le Panto Butt and a Teaninich 14 y/o from IBs "Fragrant Drops". The biggest disappointment was (whilst still an OK whisky) The Hearach.

Also, yea, #Glenlivet 12 is clearly telling me why it was recommended as a "standard", "goto budget #Scotch".
Is it bad? Not at all. Is it good? Eh. It's Scotch #whisky? As in, it tastes like the Platonic ideal of a 40% ABV Scotch: nothing more, nor less.
I'll finish the bottle…eventually? (Or give it to my whiskey-newbie sister, who might appreciate it more 🤔 Or bring it to Christmas and leave it at Dad's for the occasional visit.)

Checked the ABV on a just-opened bottle of #Glenlivet 12 #Scotch #whisky, to see whether I want to prepare the water dropper.
It's 40%, to which I whispered to myself, "well, no need to add water, this practically IS water!"

De laatste van drie whisky-avonden cm dit jaar bij Hotel am Waldbad in Uelsen, Deutschland, staat op het punt van beginnen. En voor volgend jaar november heeft Inhaber Nils Kronemeyer ook al drie Whisky-abende geboekt. Hoe mooi is dat!

Ich wählte doch den #Glenlivet, nicht den (sehr guten, aber bereits mehrfach nachgekauften) #Talisker Dark Storm.
Stilecht aus dem Talisker-Glas - relativ kräftig, sehr lecker, es fehlt noch der letzte Kick um einprägsam zu bleiben, aber definitiv einer der besseren Whiskys.
