🏴 #Transport for #Wales (TfW) has expanded rail, bus and on-demand services to help visitors travel sustainably to Eisteddfod y Garreg Las in Llantwd, North #Pembrokeshire, from 1–8 August 2026. The event celebrates #Welsh language and culture and marks 850 years since the first Eisteddfod was held in Cardigan in 1176.
Additional rail services will operate to and from Fishguard Harbour, linking with the T5 bus to the Maes, while the TrawsCymru T5 will run hourly between Cardigan and Fishguard. The Poppit fflecsi service will also cover the Eisteddfod area, with a free shuttle bus connecting Carmarthen station and the Maes.
TfW encourages visitors to use public transport for a greener, easier journey. The company will also be available at the Welsh Government stand on 3 and 4 August to answer travel queries.

Bonnie Tyler, the gravelly voiced, Grammy-nominated #Welsh pop star whose 1983 chart-topping power ballad “Total Eclipse of the Heart” enchanted succeeding generations with its bombastic charms during solar and lunar eclipses, has died. She was 75.
Tyler died unexpectedly in a hospital in #Portugal where she was being treated for an illness, her family said Thursday in a statement on her website. She was hospitalized in May in Faro, where she had a home, for emergency intestinal surgery. She had been placed in an induced coma for a period but was reportedly improving last month and expected to make a good recovery.

🏴🚍 The #Welsh Government has launched a consultation on proposals for the first regulations under the Bus Services (Wales) Act 2026, with responses invited until 30 September 2026. The regulations would support the move to a more coordinated, publicly led bus network by setting mandatory terms for local bus service contracts, applying TUPE protections to staff transferring under the new system, and establishing rules for collecting information and data to help plan and manage services. The Act replaces the deregulated model introduced by the #Transport Act 1985, aiming to deliver a more reliable, integrated and passenger-focused network. The consultation is mainly aimed at operators, local authorities, trade unions and the wider bus industry, but responses from passenger groups and the public are also encouraged. A second consultation on passenger information will follow later this year.

🏴🚉 The #Welsh Government has begun talks with the #UK #Government on a pathway to devolving rail #infrastructure and services, alongside securing fairer funding for Wales. Deputy Minister for Transport Mark Hooper said Wales, which has around 10% of Britain’s rail network by track length, has received only 1.5% of UK rail investment over the past 15 years. Immediate priorities include accelerating agreed projects such as the Burns stations, increasing Welsh influence over rail decisions through the #Railways Bill, and negotiating a funding settlement that better reflects Wales’s needs. The longer-term aim is full rail devolution, bringing track and train under Welsh control. Hooper said decisions on rail investment should be made in Wales to deliver services that better meet the needs of passengers, communities and the economy.
