  4. Oh man, what a hassle it is to predefine wifi connections on a new Linux install with NetworkManager. Used to be you could simply add 2 or 3 lines per connection to wpa_supplicant.conf but now every connection is a whole separate file with a UUID and nmtui doesn't even encode the passphrase so they need manual editing anyway.

  5. Die Startzeit eines Apple 17.1 unter Linux-Mint ist mit über 3 Minuten nicht gut.
Mit der Erkenntnis, dass hier wohl der langsame smbd.service verantwortlich ist, habe ich
    sudo systemctl disable NetworkManager-wait-online.service
    sudo systemctl mask NetworkManager-wait-online.service
ausgeführt. Der Reboot benötigte die gleiche Zeit, der Prozeß thermald.service "blockiert" jetzt.
Gibt es noch Idee wie die Startzeit reduziert werden kann?

  7. Can’t connect to public WiFi via Linux

I am using Fedora 42, and I am unable to access the captive portal of inOui TGV. I can connect to the WiFi with no problems, but I can’t get access to the Internet.

    I have tried everything:

    1. Connecting to 192.168.1.1, to http://neverssl.com, to http://wifi.sncf via browser
    2. Running sudo dhclient -r and rebooting the device
    3. Running systemctl restart NetworkManager
    4. Also other stuff I tried in the past with other public WiFis. I am sure there is something wrong with my specific device configuration, it’s not this network.

    Nothing works 😩

Can somebody who understands this stuff help me?

Viimeisimpänä ihan NetworkManagerin kautta "Tuo VPN", josta virhe :

  13. Ok! Initial build script for writerdeckOS v2.0 is done.

I even coded a menu to allow for easy change of default word processor / text editor.

The Terminal Edition defaults to using wordgrinder, but the follow word processors and text editors are loaded into the system and its easy to swap over to them:

    - WordGrinder
    - Tilde
    - Word Perfect
    - Joe
    - Emacs
    - Vi / Vim
    - Nano
    - Micro

And it's easy to install and run a custom app (text editor or otherwise!).

Also, I added nmtui - a Terminal User Interface for Network Manager to connect to the internet if needed (eg to install a new app or to configure synced cloud folders).

I need to run a couple more QA tests for this and then I'll start putting together the installation media. After testing that on a couple of laptops, I'll push it out officially!

  18. After years of using #NetworkManager because I had no clue what a #wpa_supplicant or #iwd was, I finally switched to systemd-networkd. I don't dislike NetworkManager and I will miss the integration in GNOME Settings, but I just prefer systemd-resolved, which depends a bit on systemd-networkd for some #DNS functionality I want.

I also discovered #impala for configuring iwd. What a neat utility. And it's written in Rust, which automatically makes it even better.
