3 GPU platforms and plenty of programming models – a while ago, I created a comparison table for the lab blog. For #SC23, I made it into a workshop paper for the #P3HPC workshop! New eScience Center blog post released!
RSE Alessio Sclocco wrote a blog about how he, Ben van Werkhoven, Stijn Heldens, and Floris-Jan Willemsen attended and presented a tutorial on energy-efficient GPU computing at the largest High-Performance Computing (HPC) conference in the world, which took place in Denver, USA.

- Stencil processing, RISC-V, STX, for ML
- Notably: pretty large team in multiple countries and organizations.
1.0 sampled about a year ago. Same process.
1.5 was announced just before #SC23 -

Once in 128 bit lanes, much easier to do softfloat type emulation of FP80*
*as with most things, here be dragons.
I have to double check, but I don't think the x87 did "160 bit" intermediates (the way say AVX512 does 104 bit pre-rounding intermediates for FP64)
As much as nobody *should* use the x87 anymore, some folks still do (enough so that it received an explicit mention in @hpcprogrammer 's #SC23 wrap up. )

So #SC23 was nice and all. But #Denver has really changed for the worse. Lots of empty storefronts, empty offices, security guards, scary-looking people.
And not just scary-looking; a colleague of mine was attacked twice for being asian or chinese during the week when they were out walking alone, in the middle of the day.
Next year #SC24 is in #Georgia, one week before their election. I'm going to sit out that one. It doesn't feel safe.

Eric Wright describes in his #SC23 booth talk how he implemented the #OpenMP SIMD construct in LLVM Foundation's Clang compiler.
He used this to implement GPU warp-level parallelism. He shows performance results on the Perlmutter #HPC system.
