Currently testing @xubuntu 24.04.4. No surprises; things are working just fine. Users running 24.04 already have the latest updates.
Xubuntu shares the same foundational updates found in Ubuntu 24.04.4, including the 6.17 kernel. @omgubuntu does a fantastic job (as always) reporting on the updated kernel versions: https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2026/01/ubuntu-24-04-4-lts-hwe-update-kernel-mesa
Look forward to a slew of 24.04.4 updates tomorrow.

@xubuntu 25.04 is looking pretty dreamy now that the wallpaper has landed.

It's a minor update, but Greybird 3.23.4 is here to make the Xfce 4.20 desktop labels less jarring:
https://github.com/shimmerproject/Greybird/releases/tag/v3.23.4
-
Beyond the release of Xfce 4.20, I've also been thinking about theming in Xubuntu.
We've long shipped the Greybird and Numix themes. Greybird was developed largely internally (❤️ Shimmer Project), but hasn't had much love in recent years. The same can be said for Numix.
What themes do you recommend that are well-maintained and work well with Xfce, MATE, and GNOME? Would they be a good fit for Xubuntu?
-
Xfce 4.20 is now available. On the surface (at least with the tour), it looks like little has changed beyond the file manager and the addition of experimental Wayland support.

Longtime Xfce users will love it. Folks on the outside looking in won't see any reason to switch. Xubuntu users will at least benefit from the collection of bug fixes!

KDE Wayland tip for color management. If you're used to using the "Color Management" settings to apply your ICC profiles, under Wayland, you'll find them in the display settings instead!
It confused me. Surely it's confused somebody else as well.
-
My development environment for now:
1. Mac (with macOS) + Microsoft Remote Desktop, using Tailscale for easy access to:
2. Linux PC running @UniversalBlue Bazzite, effectively working full-time as a VM host for:
3. GNOME Boxes (@gnomeboxes), with development-ready @xubuntu 24.04 and testing daily builds of 24.04 minimal and desktop ISOsEverything works together so nicely and makes working from anywhere convenient and easy.
-
In case you've tried using @xubuntu with @gnomeboxes or
virt-manager and experienced random crashes during startup or mid-session, removing the libva-wayland2 package seems to stop the crashing entirely for me.Command line:
sudo apt remove libva-wayland2Related bug:

Don't forget to help your favorite :ubuntu: #Ubuntu flavor with beta testing! The beta should land tomorrow, and there are _a lot_ of tests that need running!

If you use :fedora: #Fedora 38, #Silverblue, #Kinoite, #Vauxite, or other systems where #davinciresolve doesn't work or isn't easily installed... I've got a solution!
https://gist.github.com/bluesabre/8814afece711b0ca49de34c41e50b296
Using a Fedora 37 toolbox, copying launchers and icons, and updating everything to be container-friendly, you can get DaVinci Resolve up and running!
I haven't tested any editing, but successfully launching the app gives me hope.

Who’s going to #ohiolinux #ohiolinuxfest this year? I’m debating only going on Saturday, but if there’s enough interesting folks to meet Friday, I’ll be there.
