  1. The Valle Vidal is a 100,000-acre mountain basin in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Geologically, there are two halves:
    sedimentary sandstone, grassy valleys, and coal resources on the east side (Raton Basin edge), and steeper, uplifted volcanic and metamorphic terrain, with a history of gold mining on the west side.

  3. This is a beautiful, relaxing stroll along the East Fork of the Jemez River, perfect area to look for wildflowers from June - September. The stream flows in a rocky canyon (popular with rock climbers) in a deep conifer forest. The stream meanders through a series of open meadows. The trail goes for about 2 miles before climbing out of the canyon in a series of switchbacks.

  7. Bandera Crater is a large cinder cone that erupted approximately 10,000 years ago, creating a 23-mile lava flow & a lava tube system that includes an ice cave. The ice cave is a collapsed lava tube with natural, perpetual ice, the oldest layers of which are over 3,400 years old.
