El Morro National Monument is on NM-53 between Grants and Zuni. The towering mesa provided refuge for the Zuni in the late 1200s, with multiple structures on top of the cliffs.
Runoff pools at the base. The rare, reliable source of water has attracted humans for thousands of years, with petroglyphs and etchings marking the passing of many groups of people across the centuries.

Good morning tooters. It’s about 8c here this morning due to the low cloud holding in a little warmth & again the temps will only get to 17c with some rain forecast for the afternoon.
I’m going home this morning & I didn’t sleep very soundly last night. The mattress on my bed is a very firm one that my joints don’t really like, so tossing & turning as areas became sore.
Had a lovely day down in Rutherglen with my friend yesterday, we walked the main street of town & down a few side streets, into the park & walked around the lake, which is a lovely area that I’ve never seen before. I took a picture of a sculpture there that represents the lake & on the reverse side is the word lake in numerous languages, it’s lovely.
Taking my fur charges off for a walk as soon as I’m showered & then back here to pack up, clean up & head home hopefully by around lunch time. Back here again in 5 weeks 😊.

When Coronado arrived in 1540, the Tiguex population was at its peak with more than 20,000 people settled along 30 miles of the Rio Grande. Kuaua was at the north end of their province. Shiprock from Gallup is a ~1.5-hour drive north on U.S. Highway 491, leading to a striking volcanic neck formation. You can get a closer view or the formation and the dike wall by taking the paved Indian Service Road 13. Access to the base of Shiprock is restricted, so please view from the road or with a permitted tour guide, like Navajo Tours USA.

Cloudcroft was founded as a logging camp for the railroad built through Alamogordo, 4500-feet below in the Tularosa Basin. The cooler temperatures in the mountains, and beautiful forests and meadows, made the village a popular destination for people seeking a reprieve from the heat at lower elevations.

The Manuelito Canyon Historic District is a complex of archaeological sites located in and around Manuelito Canyon, about halfway in between Gallup, New Mexico and Lupton, Arizona. Occupied between 700-1350 A.D., the area was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964.
