This is a beautiful, relaxing stroll along the East Fork of the Jemez River, perfect area to look for wildflowers from June - September. The stream flows in a rocky canyon (popular with rock climbers) in a deep conifer forest. The stream meanders through a series of open meadows. The trail goes for about 2 miles before climbing out of the canyon in a series of switchbacks.

#Jemez #Mountains sunset May last year during my national tour following #ShivarudraBalayogi. 23 states, 4 meditation retreats, a few self writing ones. I learned that I can talk to #MAGA. At least the ones that don't feel the need to be constantly armed. 😒😒😒

The Valles Caldera is a 13.7-mile wide caldera, the third largest “supervolcano” in the U.S.
A supervolcano is capable of producing eruptions thousands of times larger than a normal volcano. The last time the Valles Caldera erupted it emitted 150 cubic miles of lava, propelling ash as far as Iowa. That was 1.2 million years ago.

Las Conchas Trail follows the East Fork #Jemez River through meadows, with an abundance of wildflowers, and wildlife. The trail is an easy stroll for the first 2 miles, w/moderate climbing 5 miles to the intersection of the East Fork trail.

Ancestral Pueblo people carved rooms, known as cavates, into the tuff cliffs of the Pajarito Plateau. Bandelier National Monument and Puye Cliff Dwellings are known for them, but they can be seen throughout the Jemez. I saw these next to the road between Bandelier and White Rock.

#archaeology #landscape #visualization from #lidar 20 - my 17th post on #ChacoanBeltRoads.
Most known examples of belt roads in the American southwest are from the northern San Juan and seem to be associated with chacoan period sites. As noted, race tracks in other areas are linear. There are very few examples from elsewhere. Here are two from the later (post-1300 CE) sites of Tovakwa and Totaskwina in the #Jemez mountains of central #NewMexico.
