The Manuelito Canyon Historic District is a complex of archaeological sites located in and around Manuelito Canyon, about halfway in between Gallup, New Mexico and Lupton, Arizona. Occupied between 700-1350 A.D., the area was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964.

The Navajo Code Talkers were Marines. They developed an unbreakable code using the Navajo language during World War II. The first 29 Navajo Code Talkers trained at Fort Wingate and deployed from the Gallup railroad depot. #Gallup is home to the Navajo Code Talker Museum.

The Opera House was an important center of social life in Gallup for many years. Weddings, theatrical performances, dances, political meetings, boxing matches and a variety of other events took place there. The first floor was originally occupied by a grand saloon and cafe. The Opera Hall closed in 1952.

Gallup, NM, was founded in 1881 as a railhead for the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad, named after paymaster David Gallup. Its history is tied to the railroad, coal mining, and its role as a central hub for the surrounding Native American communities. The Navajo Code Talkers were trained at Fort Wingate, deploying from the Gallup rail station.

The crown jewel of We the People Park is a 110-foot long, 8-foot tall, steel wall of silhouettes. The conglomeration of cut-outs creates a semi-circle depicting people from all walks of life, engaged in a variety of activities. Within the semi-circle, there are 16 empty chairs and a collection of figures at lecterns with single word inscriptions. The sculpture was created by Armando Alvarez to represent "free speech, pluralism, democracy, and our coexistence with the environment."
