I thought I'd killed my trusty #turrisomnia but it turned out my tinkering had left it and the recovery partition in a very old broken state. Fortunately after failing with a cheapo usb key I did get a more recent factory image on it. I now realise quite how fast back the system was because everything is dark mode by default now with a nice onboarding process.

Weekend's over and I managed to replace my dead #Mikrotik router for a #TurrisOmnia.

Great job, #Turris and #OpenWRT, this was the best experience I had with setting up a router to date! I managed to set up everything, including NAT quite easily and I even understand what I did.

My #TurrisOmnia arrived over 7 years ago, and I use it ever since to demo syslog-ng features. This heat map about rejected network connections was first published seven years ago today :-)

I did the math, it wouldn't have been cheaper to locally purchase a Wi-Fi 6 mPCIe card, 2 pigtails and an antenna - AND drill a further hole in the upper case of my router. So I took the easy way, and ordered it from Czechia.

If there's anyone famiar with it, my current goals:

• Point specific domains at a specific DNS server.
• Map one domain to another. E.g., youtube.com -> yewtu.be, reddit.com -> teddit.net, etc.
• Assign specific IPs to specific hosts.

My other option is to redo my DNS configuration using DNSMasq. Which quite frankly is probably preferable as its documentation and configuration are much more sane.
