  1. put together the best possible for @turris. They raise the awareness about military intelligence, and complain about lack of updates and default passwords in home routers.

My Omnia still receives updates after 9 years!

  2. *sigh* it's always #DNS. It seems that my #turris has become a DNS memory hole again and just fails to fetch A records that it definitely should. Of all the components on it the #knot #kresd has always been the flakiest.

  13. The good old freezer trick ... (aka receipt for dead devices)

My Turris Omnia NG router was dead. No lights nowhere. I took out the installed NVMe SSD. I took out the RTC battery. Nothing helped. The display stayed black, the etherenet ports didn't blink at all.

So I unplugged everything and put the power supply and the router into the freezer for half an hour. Then I took everything out, waited another half hour and plugged everything back together and ... the router lived again!

(Sometimes «fixing» things can be really strange.)

  18. I recently acquired a new Turris Omnia NG router from @turris to take advantage of my new 10 Gbit/s internet speed from my provider Init7. Now I was really curious about my actual speed ...

This led me to LibreSpeed (github.com/librespeed), an Open Source speed test tool which is working by default with PHP. Unfortunately the router isn't powerful to provide reasonable measurements because the chunk files to test the download speed are generated by PHP and openssl. This appeared to be a bottleneck.

So I was tinkering a little bit and created a NGINX backend for LibreSpeed which doesn't rely on PHP.

Now I have put together this in a GitHub comment: github.com/librespeed/speedtes

(I still rely on PHP to get the IP address and to store the measurements though, but this is lightweight enough for the router.)

    Try it out yourself: speedtest.momou.ch

  21. I finally got some time to reconfigure my network. From now on #Turris #OmniaNG is my main gateway to the internet.
Well, the software needs a lot of polish:
🪲 It has a wifi7 card, but I have to run it only in AC mode, or any connected client causes restart of all radios. I hope this will be fixed soon.
🪲 The display only worked on first boot, since than it only shows scrambled image or nothing. I don't mind it, as it's just a novelty for me. One day I would like to try render my own stuff maybe.
❓ It has two SFP+ ports, so I also bought 2×Turris metallic 1/2.5/5/10G SFP+ modules. One for older Omnia, one for Omnia NG. It makes the connection, but it runs 2.5G in one direction (that's ok, it's the maximum older omnia can handle) and 0.2G in the other direction.
I don't understand why. Is it a hardware failure? Or software bug? Or technolohy incompatibilty of some kind? 🤷‍♂️
🪲 Some LEDs are resetting brightness to max often. That's a bit annoying.

  28. Na #LinuxDays právě skončila přednáška Josefa Chomyna o #DNS4EU. Resolvery této služby si můžete snadno nastavit i v routerech #Turris.

  29. Přijďte na konferenci #LinuxDays na moji přednášku "Partybox / barevná hudba na routeru #Turris Omnia". Bude to pořádná diskotéka! 👯 🤩

  31. Weekend's over and I managed to replace my dead #Mikrotik router for a #TurrisOmnia.

Great job, #Turris and #OpenWRT, this was the best experience I had with setting up a router to date! I managed to set up everything, including NAT quite easily and I even understand what I did.

So, my blog and other services should be up again. Do, please, let me know if anything does not work.

  32. My #Turris #MOX Classic not only refuses to update itself or to enable any optional module.

It now thinks that a few kB(!) of bandwidth ought to be enough for any host connected. (Probably some single connection mode issue.)

Yeah, internet feeling like in the early 90s. 😜

NixOS update for this week now runs over one hour and a half and it will continue to do so for quite some time I guess.

New #OpenWRT router device is now ordered for a fraction of the cost of the Turris.

  33. I will be at #NetworkX event in #Paris this Wednesday and Thursday! If you will be around and want to talk about our #opensource #secure #wifi #router #Turris, let me know (preferably via e-mail) and we can meet there!

  34. SD card in my #StarFive #VisionFive2 #RiscV #SBC died (it was a "great deal" SD card for few bucks bought primarilly to save on shiping costs), so before fixing it I decided to try some benchmark on it - since I have to reinstall it anyway. I tried how good router it is (too see how far away future is #RiscV #Turris #Router), but unfortunatelly even #Iperf3 got only to 700Mbps with NAT (6.7.0 kernel, Firewalld on openSUSE). Well, time to reinstall it and get it back to being home server...
