I've been optimizing my DNS setup this week, I found out that when using @quad9dns, my DNS queries are being routed to California instead of locally in Toronto even though Quad9 has servers in Toronto. For some reason my ISP has been routing Quad9 DNS queries to Quad9's servers in California.

Luckily, both @cloudflare DNS & CIRA Canadian Shield DNS routes DNS traffic within Canada. Was pleasantly surprised that Cloudflare DNS actually supports DNS over HTTPS via HTTP/3 even though not advertised. Unfortunately, CIRA CanadianShield DNS doesn't support DNS over HTTPS via HTTP/3 or DNS over QUIC, hopefully @cira will consider adding those support in the near future.

What I really hope is that the Quad9 routing gets fixed, I know there's a good chance that there's nothing they can do about ISP routing but here's to hoping.

I really like using alternative, good #DNS services. I've been using a lot #quad9 @quad9dns . Unfortunately, I've been seeing a lot of DNS resolution failures happening. All on mobiles, with different browsers and OSs, whether with mobile data, at home or at work.

So I have grudgingly fallen back to Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1.

Any suggestions on what else one could do for a *reliable*, privacy preserving and low latency DNS?

Note: I like ad blocking, but don't want any other filtering (e.g. 'parental' concerns). The main concern is privacy and reliable DNS.

Hello,

I would like to know whether, in RethinkDNS, the filter lists I subscribe to are still applied when I select DNS over HTTPS (DoH) with Quad9 as the DNS server.
Does RethinkDNS add its own blocking on top of Quad9, or is only Quad9’s filtering used in that case?

Anyone else use @quad9dns and see their IPv6 resolvers fail constantly? I've been looking at very sporadic network ever since yesterday and just realized it's DNS. Rewriting resolver config to not use 2620:fe::fe and the errors went away.

J'suis entrain d'installer LibreWolf sur une nouvelle machine et franchement y'a tout ce que j'aime déjà par défaut :
- uBlock origin
- le DNS over HTTPS de #Quad9 sans filtre
- les Tab containers

Ajouter une langue à l'interface est simple : tu choisi une fois, dans un menu la langue que tu veux et hop lui il se démerde avec la langue de son interface, la correction orthographique de tes saisies, la langue à réclamer pour les pages web… parce que ça aussi c'est la pagaille dans Firefox.

Avec LibreWolf, par défaut le navigateur reste un navigateur et n'envahit pas ta vie privée en retenant tes mots de passe, cartes de crédit, adresses postales…

LibreWolf vs #PiHole: The results are in. 📉

Tested #LibreWolf (stock) + #Quad9 DNS.

Result:
859 extra leaks blocked by Pi-hole after 4000+ uBlock blocks.

Firefox leaked 1150+, LibreWolf 859. Better, but still a massive leak.

The lesson? A 'privacy browser' is just a cleaner window. You still need a solid door like #PiHole to keep trackers out.

Finally got around to setting up DNS over TLS to Quad9. I know it’s a relatively small security bump, but it’s still pretty cool to have encrypted DNS running network wide.
