Important milestone for my timecode gizmo: this is the first successful syncing using a cell phone and the Teensy board implementing an USB audio device, plugged as an external mic into the USB-C port. This is important as I'm pivoting my project toward youtubers rather than indy cinematographers who are already using overpriced and counter intuitive SMPTE LTC generators in their workflow 😏

Someone can tell me why the action "Insert Selected Clips to Timeline Using Timecode" is absent from all FOSS NLE? Kdenlive, OpenShot, Shotcut, Olive (stalled) to name a few... the free but closed, Davinci Resolve has this functionality (and FCPX, AP, I guess).

Ok, color grading is important... but more important than TC? for multicam? Please don't ask me "Why don't you use waveform syncing?" 🙄

Geez, J'en reviens pas comment des gens en position d'autorité (des contributeurs fréquents sur des forums "pro") ou des développeurs actifs pour des logiciels notoires (ici Kdenlive) peuvent péremptoirement énoncer des faussetés... like:

I'm currently trying to decode the bitstream of the Traktor Timecode MK2. Interestingly nobody figured it out completely yet. It seems like the bits are encoded through the y offset. Wrote some toy code to detect this and push the bits to a ringbuffer. Buuuut I'm getting state duplications which shouldn't be possible?

Maybe someone is experienced with reverse engineering bitstreams 👼?

Is the VSYNC signal (out of a VGA adapter) an OK way to measure and analyze the frame rate and clock output of a prosumer video camera spitting out HDMI?

My goal is to determine if the TC OUT of cameras is generated by the same circuitry that reads out the image sensor... if not, an easily detected drift will occur between the two clocks (and that would be a shame: I know #timecode is not genlock, but tabarnak, c'est supposé être un signal de synchro).

Note for the pros out there: I know this is only useful for syncing dailies, but I'm designing a workflow to automate re-conforming automatically, even without an EDL! Stay tuned (FOSS and multi platform, as a goal: Pro Tools, Logic, Reaper, Ardour, etc...)

Does anyone know if it is _always_ safe to feed a signal with a DC offset into _any_ audio equipment inputs? Consumer and pro level alike?

I tried it with my Nikon D300S, Fuji X-E1, ZOOM H4n Pro and my TASCAM DR-07 and all were OK filtering it... So can I assume it is OK to sell a gadget that outputs a +3.3 dBu signal with a 1.6V DC component into everyone line inputs? (and attenuated for mic inputs)

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but the #Tascam #DR70-D entry level #sound recorder CAN write a Start #Timecode into the sound files, when you set it to record in #BWF format!

I’ve had mine for a few years and always been bummed that every clip started at 0:00, which makes syncing with #video much harder. Turns out it’s just because I had it set to record in #WAV format rather than BWF!

Still can’t sync timecode with #camera, but at least I can make a starter #audio #sync map now! #TIL

Always cheap as f*ck this asskickin' D&B mix cd. Sold loads of them when I had a recordstore, way back then. Still love this stuff!

Dites les mastonautes calés en vidéo (tournage ou postprod), vous me confirmez que la série de #timecode contenue dans un fichier vidéo n'est pas enregistrée en mémoire en totalité (avec toutes ses valeurs successives) mais est plutôt recalculée à partir du premier frame? J'ai même parcouru le code source de #ffmpeg sans jamais pouvoir confirmer ni infirmer mon hypothèse.
