  2. 🎵🎤 Oh no! The mighty vinyl, once the king of crisp sound, has finally cracked under the pressure of the Loudness War. RIP to those who thought analog was immune to digital sins 😂📀. Next up: wax cylinders making a comeback with 7.1 surround sound. 🎧🕯️

  3. Finishing my first prototype power module for my panasonic rq-sx35. Plugs directly to the gumstick battery terminals. This li-ion cell packs about twice as much mAh as the ni-mh or AA it replaces. Charges with usb-c

  4. via inrng. Stubbleman has released “1:46:43 - The Ventoux Trilogy” which uses his cycling heart rate, speed, power and cadence data from the climb together with modular synths to created an ambient (Steve Reich-esque) composition.

I am filled with nerd envy.

Stubbleman is Pascal Gabriel who co-wrote and produced Beat Dis & Theme from S'Express.

  5. I do realize that, unlike me, most of you are not creating mixtapes on cassette in this year of 2025, and even if you are, they're probably not Fallout related, like mine, but on the very very small chance that you are, I have created a printable sticker sheet with cassette labels that you can use here:

    www.thefrugalgamer.net/img/printables/cassetteStickers-Fallout.jpg

Or maybe you'd just like your other mixtapes to look cooler, I dunno. Please note that the page is smaller than 8.5x11, since most printers force margins on letter sized paper. Make sure to print at 100%. Also, I ran out of ideas after coming up with 4 sets, so there are two computer desktop-related sets at the bottom. I'll add a note on my Printables page on the website later, along with the files for the J-card in case anyone wants to make their own.

  6. At first I thought this was #AnalogMusic but I googled the phrase and the results were all about preferring to listen to vinyl rather than streaming. (2/6)

  8. When I was a young man I got the album OXYGENE by Jean-Michel Jarre. It blew me away and I nearly wore the grooves off the record. And, to this day, it remains one of my go-to albums, especially when I’m writing.

Below is an excellent overview of the amazing story and technical details of how Jarre made this absolutely seminal album.

  12. CW: Physical music thread

These two next tapes, I got a bit randomly at the same time as the previous one (Holy Diver by Dio). The seller had those and I though "Oh well, why not". I had never listened to Anthrax but was curious about it, and hadn't listened to this album by Dio but it was a live album with several songs I liked, so why not indeed.

The tapes are "State of Euphoria" by Anthrax and "Intermission" by Dio.

I have to admit I haven't listened to these tapes much yet, so I'm not sure if I like them or not. I was too obsessed by listening to Holy Diver on loop and then got other tapes... I'll come back to them eventually!

  13. CW: Physical music thread

This is my most prized possession (sentimentally) : "Holy Diver" by Dio 🤟

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it on tori.fi so I immediately messaged the seller but he didn't reply for a full month 😭 When he finally replied, he explained that he was traveling but that the tape was still available! I was so relieved :blobBlush:

This is one of my favorite albums ever so I'm really happy to have a physical copy of it! I've since seen the LP a few times but so far I've resisted buying it because I prefer using my money for things that I don't already have in another format... let's see how long that holds 😅

Bonus funny tweet about this album, you're welcome :blobInnocent:
Also bonus fun fact: my tumblr URL, likearainbowinthedark, comes from a song on this album!

  14. CW: Physical music thread

The very first tapes I bought were "Use Your Illusion II" by Guns N' Roses, and "The Miracle" by Queen, around the end of July 2022.

I got them from tori.fi from a guy who didn't speak any English so I guess it was a good exercise for my Finnish skills 😅
They were also the first tapes I used to test my Walkman 💚

I knew a few songs from both albums but had never listened to them fully, and I ended up really loving them both! Now listening to them again I have immediate flashbacks to me riding my bike in the summer with gn'r blasting in my ears :blobRave:

PS: I learnt today that you're not supposed to store your tapes not rewinded, so I rewinded them just after taking the pics

  15. CW: Physical music thread, long post

Here's yet another endless thread from your dear Ikol :blobInnocent:

Today I'm talking about physical music! Is that the right word? Like tapes, CDs & LPs 💿

I started getting tapes last summer, and now that my wife bought a turntable/CD/cassette player and installed it in our living room, my inner hipster awoke and I've been browsing LP stores on a regular basis :blobCatShades:

First I wanted to explain the few reasons why I'm interested in physical music stuff:
    1) I just really like the ritualistic feel of it: taking a tape out of its box, flipping a vinyl, rewinding, etc. It makes my brain go brrr
    2) I've been feeling much more relaxed listening to music that I can't skip, like I'm forced to sit down and listen to the whole damn album, unlike when I'm on Spotify and there's so much choice that I never know what to listen, and I haven't listened to a full album there in years (except for my metal discovery thread)

-- CW for (Ukrainian) war, apocalypse and the end of civilization as we know it --

    3) That's more on my wife's side, but we've been thinking lately (especially with the Ukrainian war and the downfall of Twitter) about how all our music is on Spotify and we don't own any of it, so that if Spotify and/or the internet falls we have nothing to listen to. I know, priorities... but still! We would like to own some of our favorite music just in case, and as a bonus we get to support some artists.

So there you have it! I've mostly been buying tapes on tori.fi, a Finnish website where people sell their old stuff, and a few vinyls in second hand vinyl shops, but I also bought a few new items.

In this thread I'll occasionally post about some new music I got and I'm excited about :blobAww:

  16. Got back into cassettes which was the music format I spent most of my youth with. Still loving it! It forces you to discover and listen to music differently. A much slower, personal, attentive and immersive experience. #cassette #tape #technics #tapedeck #lowtheband #analogmusic
