    "Unlike Vim, Helix doesn't include a spell checker natively. However, Helix has built-in support for LSP, which makes it easy to pair it with an LSP-based spell checker such as Harper. All you need is tweaking a bit your languages.toml Helix configuration file as explained in the official documentation."

  15. The most frustrating thing in any software: Spell checking. I don't want it, I don't need it - why do folks force it and have no way to disable it? (Electron, looking at you)

    The worst are the AppImages for Linux for apps where typing is a necessity and as I use multiple languages the spell checker is definitely not wanted. When there are no way to disable it, I often need to write my own software wrapper for those apps. FML.

  20. Does anyone know how I can add another to the of the new editor that is currently in ?

  21. TIL: The #Signal desktop app on #Linux supports #spellchecking in multiple languages, but there is no selection UI. You can, however, list multiple locales in the LANGUAGE environment variable, delimited by colons. The first one selects the interface language. For example:

    LANGUAGE=en_US:de_DE

    will give you a US English interface and spell checking in US English and German (Germany).

    No need to install anything, Signal will download dictionaries on first use.

  26. My siblings just arranged to come gather round my plus-sized TV next week. We'll watch a newish animated Blu-ray my brother just bought. Plus have a pizza party.

    But when my sister texted the title, it seemed off. I had to check, and correct her. With apologies. It's about a cat IN footwear, not a cat AND footwear. So not Puss 'n' Boots but Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. I was neurotically unable to put it in my calendar less than purrfectly ...

  30. Not as annoying as finding folded page corners in a book, but still irksome, is finding a #typo in a book from a supposedly reputable publisher. Back in the days of old-fashioned #typesetting, I recall everything I read being flawless. Now with #DigitalTypesetting and automatic #spellchecking, I find typos. Not a nonsense word, but another English word that the spellchecker doesn't catch. I just started a new popular hardcover novel from a big #publisher and found a typo on the first page.

  35. Hey @[email protected],
    After reading this post, I explored the options that one has as a user, when it comes to and finally opted for the extension.
    The software itself is and since I did not want it to send everything I write to some remote server, I set up a Docker container on a local machine with the help of this repository:
    github.com/Erikvl87/docker-lan
    I like the results so far, so perhaps it could be something for you to consider too :)

    After reading this post, I explored the options that one has as a #Firefox user, when it comes to #spellchecking and finally opted for the #LanguageTool extension.

  37. By the way, besides that, for those of you who happen to run a blog or statically built page, that uses CI, I have some nice little commit for you:

    octo.sh/Sheogorath/blog/blob/a

    Automated spellcheck during build ;) It's not perfect, you probably need to add a ton of words you would expect a spellchecker to pick up in its own, but once that is done, it works great.
