    From Wikipedia...

    The largest species of Elk in N. America, named after Theodore Roosevelt by a friend of his in 1897. Protecting the Roosevelt elk was the main reason for the creation of Mount Olympus National Monument in 1909 by President Theodore Roosevelt. In 1937, President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited the region and saw the elk named after his cousin. The following year he created Olympic National Park.

Getting caught up on editing photos from a trip to Sequim at the end of July.  That part of the Olympic Peninsula is a very productive lavender region, and many farms large & small are open to the public during the summer.  Needless to say it's a pretty popular destination for photographers at the height of the growing season.

    This also makes it very popular with your friendly neighborhood pollinators.  When you're standing in the middle of the fields, and all other noises die down, you're left with the pleasant drone of thousands upon thousands of bees.

    Also, a reminder: I'll be at Kenmore Camera this evening from 5:30 to 6:30 for the artists reception and awards ceremony of the Kenmore Art Show.  Hope to see you there!
