There are a lot of striking examples of bad and misleading visualizations out there. Even specific websites dedicated to the topic can be found. Yet, most of them only discuss charts and maps. Examples for bad 3D visualizations of spatial data (medical, flow, engineering, biological, climate, wheater, ...) are really hard to find.
Does anyone know of a good source for those?

Earlier this year my doctoral dissertation was finally published. It explores how to use #visualization to communicate #performance characteristics of complex software systems.

As I get ready for this year's Maker Faire, I can't help but be nostalgic for the first years of that amazing event, and what we did in those years. I really need to work more on documenting it. Some of the best things I've ever done took place at the Maker Faire :D

Im very happy about yesterday‘s #SciVis #Contest challenge session at #ieeevis. Now I can finally reveal the secret prizes I have been hiding for a while: Professional Ultimate #SciVisContest Frisbees 🥏
Congratulations again to the winners 🏆 -
There are probably some people currently planning what to attend @ #ieeevis conference next week. My highly secret insights reccomend visiting the #SciVis #Contest session on Monday, 14°°. Honestly, we had such great submissions on brain activity data! See you in #Melbourne :)

Rough mock-up of iron age village. Wildly inaccurate, but I needed something to populate a simulation with, give an impression of what the atmosphere and lighting situation could look like and communicate the general idea of the visualization project.

Just realized I never posted an #introduction, so here we go:
Hi 👋 my name is Hagen and currently I'm pursuing my PhD in computer science. My research interests include Information Visualization, Scientific Visualization techniques, and Computer Graphics.
Please check my personal website for more details on my work and publications and feel free to say hi!

Prompted by @tess_machling - more messing about with #lidar data from the UK Environment Agency's National LIDAR Programme, this time with renders of the area around #Snettisham, #Norfolk.
Landscape is ... quite flat, so I experimented with lighting and surface shading to accentuate even the most subtle surface details.
Made with GDAL, Photoshop and Modo - it's definitely not a standard lidar pipeline...
Jumbo-sized renders:
