🌿 LiDAR reveals 20,000+ geometric earthworks hidden beneath the Amazon canopy, rewriting the story of pre-Columbian America.

Archaeologists flew laser scanners over 4,430 km of Brazilian rainforest and found 432 previously unknown earthworks. Extrapolating across the region, they estimate 24,000 to 30,000 monumental structures built by the Aquiry civilization, which peaked between 100 and 300 CE with 1.25 to 3 million people.

The civilization built circles, squares, octagons and pentagrams as deep ditches and embankments, some 40 feet wide and 16 feet deep. They built all this without metal tools or draft animals. The earthworks served as ceremonial and political centers where thousands gathered for feasts, games and rituals.

#Jetson Orin Nano #Ubuntu is very unfriendly with no good native apps and is relatively slow running most programs. So, it is only good for doing some small LLM inferencing and #edgeAI stuff like #LiDAR which I don't care cause I will be using #esp32 for that purpose.

But the good news is, I can use Pi Apps which uses #Flatpak, allowing some of my favorite apps. like #Obsidian notes, to run on this Jetson board that runs on an ARM 64 version of Ubuntu.
