LOL, 4 years #Critics of the #MusicIndustry have been labeled #Rockists and Elitists 4 complaining about the decline in the quality of lamestream Music quality for decades, especially in #PopMusic, but we were right and something had to give.
BTW, you can loathe #Poptimism not because you hate Pop Music, but because you care about it.

A lot of this #Poptimist advocacy by middle aged adults just sounds like writers who are desperate to be hip with the young crowd but managing to do that in a condescending & wilfully ignorant way.

Other than the Optimist part of the Word, my other problem with “#Poptimism” is that it isn’t Genre Neutral, it leaves out a LOT of Music, especially the kind of Music that mainstream entertainment coverage all too often ignores, which Rockcentricism/#Rockism was also guilty of.

But we shouldn't forget that #GothMagazines of old were often just giving descriptions of Albums & Singles, not real reviews much less negative ones.
Let's avoid looking back at the past with rose tinted lenses.

Local stores practiced community #MutualAid but rejected outsiders, while large-scale corporate chains only cared about the dollar. (Lizbeth Cohen, Making the New Deal). This reminds me of T users' #poptimism about the corporate bird site as an "open space" and their skepticism of #MutualAid in "siloed" communities in the #Fediverse.
