  1. Yesterday I received excellent service and courteous, professional replies to e-mail from a city council where I did not expect this. And dreadful customer service from a large retailer where this should have been baked in. And Google photos reminded me I cut a tree down four years ago. It has all recovered nicely now. I should have gone to the plot and built some supports for a vine rather than trying to buy anything. #sheffield #pollarding #allotment

The old and lonely one. Some hundred years ago there was a farm here. This pollarding tree, which have given up, is the only one left that can tell.

  10. #Spring #Garden update: the first tulips to bloom are obviously the semi-wild ones in the middle of the bushes. Can't see them from the path at all.

On the second photo, the willow after #pollarding this winter, showing a crown of fresh buds from the very thick old stump. #gardening

  14. Traditional alder tree pollarding at Khonoma, Nagaland.

TL;DR: Pollarding is a pruning system involving the removal of the upper branches of a tree, which promotes the growth of a dense head of foliage and branches.

    Last Gasp Pollarding Elm

    This one 5-600+ years old

Microbiologists from various nations spend weeks on end every summer studying the inhabitants of this old master.

In recent years hoisted a few meters up from a pollarding field still tended to at Tho in Hjartdal, Telemark by Olav Tho

Post 2: Harvesting wood can be just as, and sometimes even more! exiting as turning. The lust for trees grows stronger by the turning years. This guy is several hundred years old, until recently a #pollarding #elm in central #Telemark: «Dead Master Laughing». Makes for some unusual shapes and turning. Natures own #art

  28. Two-year-old sprouting willow stems on a pollarded willow, planted as an ornamental, so maybe violet willow (Salix daphnoides) or purple willow (Salix purpurea). This darker-coloured bark will be rich in salicin, giving us anti-inflammatory salicylic acid when ingested. But incredibly bitter tasting! This is one of a group of willows being pollarded on a four-year cycle so there is always plenty of fresh bark as a #herbalharvest. Stay safe, if you suffer with chronic arthritis or joint pain don't try it yourself without finding a local medical herbalist or clinical herbal practitioner to advise on herbs alongside orthodox medication - they will do a full consultation and advise on safe use. Professional bodies include the College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy (thecpp.uk). #herbalmedicine #pollarding #medicinalplants #treesthatheal #permaculture
