The cedar comes from an old bed frame that I recuperated.
Finished with diluted tung oil and beeswax.

Walnut bowl, 24cm x 9cm
It had two knots that I filled with some teak.
Walnut is rather soft, the end grain is a pain to smooth, even with sharp tools, but I did my best.

Late last night – ready for

The workbench, located in my new outdor covered workshop, is nearly finished now. It’s due to be gone over with a random orbital sander next week. Two-inch-thick slabs of birch and ash will withstand a fair amount of heavy use.

Monday, I visited a local fountain pen shop. The owner offered to let me try out the aluminum and brass Colorverse Shuttle nibs when I asked him about them.

At $45, it might seem a bit pricey, but I'm telling you, it's worth every penny! It holds a ton of ink, but hasn't dripped or splattered yet. The transistions between line weights feels smooth and natural.

Their aluminum nib holder is great, but I opted to make my own from maple on the lathe.

Made a key tray/bowl last week as a housewarming gift. Tas Myrtle. There's issues with the design (some of which is down to using a recess instead of a tenon, to avoid losing another bowl to the Cole jaws) and some finishing defects under the beads. But: progress! #woodturning

A neighbour found a rainbarrel being thown out. All she wanted was the metal rings for an art project, so i aquired the wood. Only half the thickness is rotten - there is still enough solid oak(?) to make coasters. Yay! #SalvagedWood #woodturning

This one is boxelder. Pretty happy with it. I'm trying to get better at supported cuts that reduce tear out.

Another sunny mild day, so I got the lathe out again.
Got the step by step instructions and an appropriate sized piece of Walnut and made this little thing. About 9cm by 6cm.
With some guidance the students should be able to complete the project in the allotted time.

I’m going to assist at an adult education class that my woodturning club puts on every month.
I usually assist for the open shop we host earlier the same day but the usual evening assistants are unavailable so I switched.
It’s a step by step project, and I need to practice that beforehand. Today was really nice, sunny and cool so I dragged my mini lathe out in the driveway and turned some wood.
These are not the project, just some muscle memory work. A 8" maple dish and a cherry spin top.
I have a week, so given more nice days. I will drag the lathe out again.
Plus it will get me in the mood to clean out the garage and get my big lathes back in action.
