The London #plane (#Platanus × #hispanica) is frequently planted in major German cities due to its tolerance of urban climates, as seen here in park Rehberge, Berlin. Photos show the #fruit, a spherical cluster of nut-like achenes with wind dispersal. According to S. Zhang et al. (2019), three #FULlike #genes, PlacFL1/2/3, regulate flowering, #flowerdevelopment, and #dormancy.

It's profoundly comforting to see that one's work is still raising interest after more than a decade, especially, something that at the time of publication was harshly attacked by "expert #reviewers" –anonymously of course (#FightTheFog). And ignored by the botanical High Priests beyond the Big Pond 😎😎😎

A visit to Shinjuku Gyoen in the late afternoon revealed a large crowd of people lying on the grass and relaxing.

A visibly old #hybridplane #Platanus × #hispanica in #park around lake #Lietzensee in #Berlin. The tree, as a hybrid of non-native #species, harbors a #lower #biodiversity than, for example, an similar old oak tree. However, the adjacent #shorevegetation provides evidence of a #bank #biodiversity. That wasn't always the case, as the shore of the #IceAge #lake was created as a decorative park in the 19th century and is still under #historicpreservation today.
