  1. A visibly old #hybridplane #Platanus × #hispanica in #park around lake #Lietzensee in #Berlin. The tree, as a hybrid of non-native #species, harbors a #lower #biodiversity than, for example, an similar old oak tree. However, the adjacent #shorevegetation provides evidence of a #bank #biodiversity. That wasn't always the case, as the shore of the #IceAge #lake was created as a decorative park in the 19th century and is still under #historicpreservation today.

  2. Creation of #biodiversity: the #Berlin #lake "#Lietzensee" is part of a chain of #iceage lakes. However, it is no longer directly connected to the neighboring lakes, but is "fed" exclusively by #groundwater. The result is poor #waterquality, a hostility to life that has been exacerbated by the previous open bank design. They are actually in order to improve that landscape and the water quality.
