  1. Was looking at 2nd hand books, the "book club" sort of books, and found that #HollywoodMovies, #USStyle covers and "#NYTBestSeller listed" are now grouped by my aesthetic along with the #EntertainedTopNazis artists.

Doubtless #VonKarajan had musical talent. But so many others do too.
And they don't arrive with a heavy ethical burden.

So I didn't buy any of the US-tainted books.

Wondering if this'll spread to the #PopMusic I listen to.

I've never bought a book bc it was a #NYT best seller #NYTBS . I've bought a lot of books in my life. Surely every book in the bookstore isn't a NYTBS.

But I get the feeling it's important to be a NYTBS if you're an author.

Can an author explain to me why?

Not sure about this reply from #veniceai

  3. Aside from all the death/funeral related content I consume, I typically read about 100 novels a year. Some stand apart from the others and bear multiple rereadings and recommendations. These are three, united by a theme of righteous feminine rage. They even follow a path through womanhood:

Nightbitch - the childbearing years, standing up against societal expectations and raging against the patriarchy

Lessons In Chemistry - the working mom years, standing up against societal expectations and raging against the patriarchy

The Change - the post menopausal years, standing up against societal expectations and raging against the patriarchy

I’m so glad books like this exist. I’m grateful to authors who prove that we can break free from internalized misogyny and embrace our rage. It’s not unfeminine to be angry, and we can be powerful at age stage of life.

Special thanks to Kirsten Miller (for the book mail and the kind words), Rachel Yoder (for responding to my fangirling and expressing interest in my own work), and Bonnie Garmus (whom I have not yet reached out to but admire nonetheless). Write on!

  6. First questionable decision of 2023: I stayed up til 2am to finish reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. 😵‍💫 No regrets 😁

How have I not read this book already?! I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. It went far beyond the typical Hollywood love affairs and paparazzi I expected. There were recurring themes of loss, disenfranchised grief, and assisted death, plus interracial and LGBTQ relationships despite spanning a few decades that weren’t notable for acceptance. The author really drew me in and compelled me to keep reading. I *may* have teared up a bit at the end. Very well done.

Have you read this one? What did you think?
