Best novel I have read this year is #LessonsInChemistry by #BonnieGarmus. It speaks to women in STEM and is extremely funny. This is the debut novel for Garmus who is 65 :-)
Just gasped in horror hearing the author of #LessonsInChemistry #BonnieGarmus saying on BBC World Service "I normally do [readings and bookshop visits] for free" No! No! No! All very well if she has a husband supporting her: writers should not work for free

Really enjoyed the book #LessonsInChemistry by #BonnieGarmus. I think Elizabeth and Calvin could be autistic @actuallyautistic @bookstodon
#LessonsInChemistry is based on the bestselling, debut novel of the same name from #BonnieGarmus.
Starring alongside #BrieLarson are #LewisPullman, #AjaNaomiKing, #StephanieKoenig, #KevinSussman, #PatrickWalker & #ThomasMann.
Wanting to get back into reading, so I charged up my #kindle #paperwhite and have been adding #books to it over the last few days.
Currently re-reading (for about the 5th or 6th time) Another Roadside Attraction by #TomRobbins. I’ve also downloaded most of the rest of his books and will be rereading those soon, too.
I’ve got Daisy Jones and the Six by #TaylorJenkinsReid, Lessons in Chemistry by #BonnieGarmus, and All the Light We Cannot See by #AnthonyDoerr.
My reading tastes are a bit all over the place, and I’m never sure what I may or may not like. But if you’ve any #recommendations for books you think are particularly good, I’m all ears!
Aside from all the death/funeral related content I consume, I typically read about 100 novels a year. Some stand apart from the others and bear multiple rereadings and recommendations. These are three, united by a theme of righteous feminine rage. They even follow a path through womanhood:
Nightbitch - the childbearing years, standing up against societal expectations and raging against the patriarchy
Lessons In Chemistry - the working mom years, standing up against societal expectations and raging against the patriarchy
The Change - the post menopausal years, standing up against societal expectations and raging against the patriarchy
I’m so glad books like this exist. I’m grateful to authors who prove that we can break free from internalized misogyny and embrace our rage. It’s not unfeminine to be angry, and we can be powerful at age stage of life.
Special thanks to Kirsten Miller (for the book mail and the kind words), Rachel Yoder (for responding to my fangirling and expressing interest in my own work), and Bonnie Garmus (whom I have not yet reached out to but admire nonetheless). Write on!

"What led you to write a comedy about #sexism & #misogyny?
"I think any time a writer wants to take on a difficult topic without sounding didactic, humour really helps. Sexism is demeaning, depressing, infuriating, boring, inefficient, stupid, revolting & completely unscientific – in other words, not funny. But people reveal both their strengths & weaknesses when they try to deal with it, or not deal with it, & therein lies the potential for humour." #BonnieGarmus https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/feb/25/bonnie-garmus-so-few-of-us-havent-been-pushed-aside-lessons-in-chemistry #books
