In the modern digital age, does it still make sense to be talking about font sizes referring to the sizes some imaginary metal blocks of type? Wouldn't talking about actually glyph size make more sense?

I sometimes see people talk about how many pages the book they're currently writing is up to. You can't actually know that unless you know the page size of the published book, the margins, the typeface, the font size, the leading, the margins, etc. Typesetting can change the page count dramatically.

I think the CE in dates should be "current era" instead of "common era". Weren't all the eras before this one "common" too? Or was each and every one of them special?

Idea… sporting events with only three quarters. That way, it saves time. At the end, no one is declared winner. Instead of calling them "periods", they can call them "question marks". 🤪

I did a crossword puzzle that expected me to know what each initial in Q.E.D. stands for. I still do not. I don't speak Latin. As far as I know, the only people who speak Latin are crazy cultists who wear robes all day everyday.

I am so easily amused. For example, whenever I read "scientists are reluctant to ascribe human traits to animals", I read the statement out loud, laugh, and repeat the sequence at least twice.

How come in grade school, they're called "teachers" but in universities, they're called "professors"? Do teachers not profess or do professors not teach?

Drawing Superman's crest as a kid often made me start to forget or at least doubt which orientation an S is supposed to be. Bizarro just added to that confusion. Sometimes, I even had to start writing words with S to help me remember. Something about abstracting it I guess?
I was reminded of this because when I was a kid, people said my 5 looked like S. Math teachers never questioned it though. 🤷♂️
