  1. #WritersCoffeeClub AU 3: Are your narrators a diegetic part of the world which they narrate?

    Fiction

I think so. My stories are told in the first person by articulate characters.

I rarely use footnotes or parenthetical inserts.

    Poetry / Photos / Hiabun

When I combine poetry and photography (hiabun), the poetry would be non-diegetic if I understand the word correctly.

Below is a sample of a non-diegetic mix from 2022

  3. #Crows Many of them let me get very close now, especially if they are not on the ground. When I am out of my normal territory, this is very obvious; they stay a long way away.

Got this shot as a result. #Crow with food.

  4. #Crows The fledglings are out and around now, which means the older crows are shepherding them, and everyone is on the hunt for food.

  5. #Crows Two items today.

First, due to my car being vandalized, I have been walking places I don't usually. (It is repaired now.)

I have been comparing the crows in neighborhoods where I don't usually go, and they are all thinner than my local ones. Draw your own inferences.

The second thing is a ran into a place where I could watch crows landing to eat cherries they had picked. It was fascinating to watch them play with a little and then pin them down with a foot so they tear at the flesh.

    Unrelated picture.

  6. Is a disaster yet? — Sat & Sunday

Things did not improve. In the mid-afternoon, there were some rainbows, but no sun breaks. I finished reading something that had been on my TBR list for over a decade, “Moll Flanders,” by Defoe.

              Shiny bow
              In a dismal sky
              God's hint

              Yet they withhold
              No sun disclose

  7. Is a disaster yet? — Sat Morning

What a wild night: rain, sleet, hail (light), and snow. I woke up to a light coating of snow everywhere. This was the last morning I didn’t need to take shelter while I ate breakfast and had my tea.

  8. Friday Part III

That was the last of the “decent” weather, and the rain slowly turned to sleet and then to icy snow. The weather threatened to improve come evening, and I got a lovely sunset reflected in the east.

It lied, and the night was interesting. More on that tomorrow.

  9. Friday Part II

We moved to mixed clouds and periodic sprinkles. It was nice enough to go flower viewing before I had to retreat to the car to read "Experimental Film" by Gemma Files and "Turn of the Screw" by Henry James.

  10. Is it a disaster yet? — Friday Part 1

The new day started with mixed weather. On rolling out of a dry tent, I found fog mixed with light rain. Things looked hopeful.

              Fog bound
              Monkey rains
              Tinny prattle

              Hope in the dawning
              In solitude settled

  11. Thursday Part II

The new tent, now deceased (which we will get to at the very end), was best I’ve I’ve owned. It was easy for one person to set up, dry, and airy. I finished the first half of Yuru Camp #17 and fell asleep to the sound of the wind rumbling like a freight train.

  12. Is a disaster yet?

    Is a disaster yet?

The difference between a disaster and an adventure is if you recover.

    Thursday Part I

The trip started under mixed omens. The weather cleared, and the camp fees were waived. It’s always pretty isolated, but this early in the year, with a mixed weather forecast, it was a safe bet we (Roscoe Arbuckle [my dog] and I) would have the place to ourselves, and we did.

The view of Mt. Hood was spectacular on the way in. This was as good as it got.

Evening rolled in with mixed showers and sun. The chill was enough that I read mostly in the car with Roscoe. (A Stable of Nightmares, by Joseph Sheridan Fanu)
