    evening stroll to town
    black ant's brief rumspringa
    ends under my tread

This bothers me. I didn’t observe this; the idea came to me as I ruminated. If I did observe this, then I was likely willful in stepping, or at least in not averting the decisive stomp. I don’t think I'd do that…? Tho this must happen unwittingly 10x per mile at least. Hmm, I’ll leave it as it stands, but I need this disclaimer, thus inflating this occasional #haiku into a necessary #haibun! #senryu #poetry

Last time I saw this sunrise, it was raining and snowing. Some people would never come back to a place thinking this place was jinxed. Nature is capricious, though.

    ••⋅☾ #俳文 ☽⋅••
While hiking an abandoned logging road, I tripped and sprained my wrist. Getting old is hard, and my balance isn't what it used to be. It's healing, but it aches after typing, which is much better than the first two days, when I thought I would have to have my daughter pack my camping gear. Some of my series may suffer, but that is better than living in pain or damaging my wrist.

In an obvious decision, Trump's ludicrous argument that birthright citizenship is not a constitutionally protected birthright the Supreme Court struck down the president's executive order.

The Supreme Court, in a rare pro-voter ruling, held that the postmark on a mail-in ballot could determine if a vote should be counted. On the other hand, they upheld a Texas law that criminalizes a disabled person compensating a friend or relative for helping them vote.

  8. Is a disaster yet? — Sat & Sunday

Things did not improve. In the mid-afternoon, there were some rainbows, but no sun breaks. I finished reading something that had been on my TBR list for over a decade, “Moll Flanders,” by Defoe.

              Shiny bow
              In a dismal sky
              God's hint

              Yet they withhold
              No sun disclose

  10. Is a disaster yet? — Sat Morning

What a wild night: rain, sleet, hail (light), and snow. I woke up to a light coating of snow everywhere. This was the last morning I didn’t need to take shelter while I ate breakfast and had my tea.

  11. Friday Part III

That was the last of the “decent” weather, and the rain slowly turned to sleet and then to icy snow. The weather threatened to improve come evening, and I got a lovely sunset reflected in the east.

It lied, and the night was interesting. More on that tomorrow.

  12. Friday Part II

We moved to mixed clouds and periodic sprinkles. It was nice enough to go flower viewing before I had to retreat to the car to read "Experimental Film" by Gemma Files and "Turn of the Screw" by Henry James.

  13. Is it a disaster yet? — Friday Part 1

The new day started with mixed weather. On rolling out of a dry tent, I found fog mixed with light rain. Things looked hopeful.

              Fog bound
              Monkey rains
              Tinny prattle

  14. Thursday Part II

The new tent, now deceased (which we will get to at the very end), was best I’ve I’ve owned. It was easy for one person to set up, dry, and airy. I finished the first half of Yuru Camp #17 and fell asleep to the sound of the wind rumbling like a freight train.

  15. Is a disaster yet?

    Is a disaster yet?

The difference between a disaster and an adventure is if you recover.

    Thursday Part I

The trip started under mixed omens. The weather cleared, and the camp fees were waived. It’s always pretty isolated, but this early in the year, with a mixed weather forecast, it was a safe bet we (Roscoe Arbuckle [my dog] and I) would have the place to ourselves, and we did.

The view of Mt. Hood was spectacular on the way in. This was as good as it got.

Evening rolled in with mixed showers and sun. The chill was enough that I read mostly in the car with Roscoe. (A Stable of Nightmares, by Joseph Sheridan Fanu)

  16. Much ado, or: No exit

    A haibun

    spring window—
    my curtain lifts once
    then settles

The room is quiet, but the noise does not settle inside my head. Voices overlap; doubts, second-guessing, rehearsed replies, small concerns that return just when I begin to hope they have finished. They question, correct, and circle back until even simple moments become crowded. I understand the desire for it to stop, the pressure inside the mind.

    d’Verse Haibun Monday

For this week’s Haibun Monday prompt, we are encouraged to compose silence-themed haibun.

    Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

    Ben Harper (b. 1969)

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!
