  1. #Mudlark finds *I have a PLA Foreshore Permit for the Thames Foreshore, Do Not Search the Foreshore Without a License*

The chunky rainbow-y, sometimes golden covered olive glass is probably victorian/edwardian beer bottles (but so pretty!), a bunch of plain pipe stems and fairly plain broken pipe bowls. I'm more interested in the larger pieces of pottery.

  2. Backstage, in the staff room, at the botanic gardens and admiring the collection of found objects from the site. A large, chunky clay pipe, suggesting tobacco was reasonably priced at the time this was made.

Last pic is an Australian native pomegranate 🩵

  3. Remnants of a Legendary Typeface Have Been Rescued From the River Thames
Doves Type was thrown into the water a century ago, following a dispute between its creators.

  5. Considering this coin has been in the Thames mud for 250 years it hasn’t worn down too much! Find a lot of #georgian coins whilst #mudlarking but never tire of seeing them laying on the surface.

  6. It’s only January, but this may well end up being Mud Historian's (Malcolm Russell) #mudlarking find of the year: a miraculously mostly complete Roman cup. A less common form. Now having its contents x-rayed at the Museum of London. #mudlark #archaeology #romanbritain #history

  7. Weird find this week. Could be anything from Roman to 18th century. Will update post once I get to the bottom of it!

  8. I found this fragment a few years ago in the sea near a ancient temple on a Greek island called #aegina. I knew it was something but only when a saw the little animal in a museum a few years later did I find out what it was.
Dating back around 3400 years it was a fragment a Mycenaean terracotta bull. Swipe to see one sold in Christie’s and the crap photo I took.
Amazing to see the colour has lasted so long.

  9. I’ve found a few of these, they were made to commemorate the marriage of Charles II and his wife Catherine of Braganza, in 1660. Two hearts and a crown, this is a button. I guess they didn’t give out key rings back then!

  10. A view from the #thames at low tide. This is the largest archeological site in the world, just under the best city in the world (for tourists). Down here, it is calm and full of #history #mudlark #treasure

  11. It looks like this on the foreshore - this would be a jaw bone going back 300+ years, there were no bins back in the #middleges #mudlark #Detectorists #thames #london

  12. Tudor rose..we find loads of these on the #thames, a Charles I rose farthing dating 1625-1649. It’s said they were the fee to cross the Thames by boat pre the bridges of Tower and London…

  13. These gold #cufflinks date from around 1650-1700 and have been protected by the anaerobic mud of the #thames for 350 years, dating back to Charles II

  14. This is a huge #cartwheel eroding out on the #thames it would have been thrown in hundreds of years ago and has been preserved by the anaerobic mud. I’ve been watching it for the past 6 years..slowly rising.

  15. One of the bird accounts I miss is London #Mudlark. She always shared such interesting finds. She has other social media accounts & a website (laramaiklem.com/) but I hope she’ll end up here — this place would be a great fit for her!

  16. Yesterday evening I got chatting with #OldFatherThames, Tide Travelling #Mudlark, History Sleuth & Artist, at the premier of #TimeAndTide.
