@coffeepine I'm actually quoting #JeffSharlet, who I think is an interesting writer. I'm reading his book, The Undertow: Scenes from a Slow Civil War. I believe his key point is that it's all hands on deck. Some of us may be fighting in the streets. Others may be fighting the good fight on the library board. We all have a part to play in building more vibrant democratic cultures. By the way, I heard Jeff make this point on the excellent #Conspirituality podcast. Highly recommended.

A number of issues with this argument.
First of all, the "rule of law" is an ideal traditionally used as a cudgel aimed squarely at the dispossessed. Rule of law has been used as an effective tool to enforce an unjust status quo since forever.
Secondly the idea that the right will be inhibited from burning it all down in the face of liberal loyalty to institutional norms is painfully ludicrous.
