  6. Social Media/News Media: All these social-news media organisations are on a leash. It is conducted with an agenda. Many editors edit and even rewrite what their journalist present. Politics, ownership and alliances matter most. Social Media is well-known to introduce as 'normal' the ungodly, making the illegal legal. In general what we received is 'manufactured news' to serve goals and objectives, not the truth. #socialmedia #newsmedia #politics #ownership

  8. The character assassination of TVNZ political journalist Maiki Sherman;

    rnz.co.nz/news/media-technolog

    ... reminds me of what happened to Metiria Turei, and to Benjamin Doyle. Old scuttlebutt dug up, and then a campaign if sustained harassment of the person, the institution they're part of, and in Metiria's case, her whānau.

  10. @dockwalk Never believe in what you read in the newspapers or on the Internet. Its usually geared to serve specific interest. It is owned by specific interest. Always keep in mind how Saddam Hussein was FRAMED for weapons of mass destruction and the culprits are enjoying a holiday. We live in a world that only exists for the elite. They allow us to rant and complain so long as we don't disrupt the 'beehive' and 'queen' in charge. #newsmedia #politic

  12. Saturday night, US political figure Donald Trump staged a surprise event at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner at which he was scheduled to speak.
    The surprise caused panic at the dinner leading to evacuation and possible rescheduling.
    Later in the evening Trump explained that the stunt was intended to highlight the need for a ballroom on the White House grounds where events like the disrupted dinner could be held.
    Earlier in the year, Trump had torn down the East Wing of the White House to create space for his ballroom.

  20. How do we get people to pay for local news? The answer may come from a nonprofit started in 2022 with the mission of reporting on MD public policy. It now has 79,000 paid subscribers and is expanding. Next stop: Pittsburgh, where it is buying a venerable newspaper. The goal: persuading people there to pay for factual, unbiased news. nytimes.com/2026/04/14/busines #newsmedia

  21. No question that the collapse of newspapers … and the decline of unbiased TV news … are serious threats to democracy and civic involvement. There are a few things that well-motivated state gov’ts could do. But the answer must come from figuring out how to get people to pay for professionally reported, nonpartisan local news. governing.com/urban/building-t #newsmedia

  27. I am going to call out the media. Obviously, I am watching ABC NEWS (AU), but they have consistently reported Trump's comments as a "warning" this morning.

    This is a misrepresentation of those comments. He is making threats. This is consistent behaviour we have seen from Trump. They are not warnings, but threats.

    As I have typed this, even the newsletter came in showing how the ABC is reporting this. Iran threats, the US warns.

  33. This should make you properly gloomy. In 2002 there were 40 professional, nonpartisan journalists for every 100,000 Americans. Today there are eight. What does it mean? That we are making decisions about public policies and civic progress today with a lot fewer facts than two decades ago. And, no, social media is not taking up the slack. theconversation.com/why-the-pi #newsmedia
