  1. Pinta 3.0 Released With New Effects and GTK4 Port

Indulging your casual creativity (read: making memes, defacing selfies, etc) using open-source tools is made easier with the long-awaited release of Pinta 3.0. Pinta, as long-time Linux users will be aware, is a cross-platform raster graphics tool with a feature set and user-interface partly inspired by popular Windows image editing tool Paint.NET. I previewed the Pinta 3.0 beta back in January and came away impressed. Pinta port to GTK4/libadwaita lends the UI a much-needed modern look – and is more than superficial: usability, performance and stability is bolstered by the toolkit bump. Pinta 3.0 switches to a button-based header bar :sys_more_orange:

  3. Pinta Image Editor Update Brings Feature Tweaks & Bug Fixes

The image editing app Pinta has a new bug-fix release out. Pinta 1.7.1 is intended as the final update in the GTK2-based series, with a GTK3 build (dubbed Pinta 1.8) said to be nearly ready for release. Building on the feature set introduced in last year’s revival release Pinta 1.7.1 adds a couple of notable improvements: Scroll canvas horizontally by holding shift and using mouse whee Swap primary and secondary palette colors by pressing x Zoom in and out without pressing the ctrl key Informative dialog when attempting to open an unsupported file format Use arrow keys to move by :sys_more_orange:

  4. Annotator is a Slick Annotation Tool for Linux Desktops

Sometimes I want to annotate an image quickly, but without loading up a full-blown image editing app like The GIMP. Today I found an amazing app that lets me do just that. Annotator by Trevor Williams is something of a cross between the macOS Preview app (which has powerful markup tools built-in) and FOSS-fave Shutter. Indeed, until now, my go-to tool for annotating images on Linux is Shutter (or Flameshot, though it can only annotate screenshots you take using it), though its UI is a little dated and a few features are missing. So when I saw Annotator on the :sys_more_orange:
