How Pinta can replace most peoples needs for photoshop & similar products. Striking a good balance between average home user Tasks and professional grade tools which most of us never use 1/10th of. Essentially a halfway point between paint.net & GIMP

  4. After switching from Win11 to #fedora a few months back, I was really happy because everything worked really well. Now I am running into two nasty bugs that I guess some update have brought.

    1) the foreground app does not catch mouse clicks, instead the background app does. I usually notice this after downloading a file in #vivaldi #browser and clicking the "download finished" notification, upon which the files app opens in the foreground... but whatever click I make, Vivaldi receives the click. This also happens with other apps in fore- and background. The only fix I have found is to restart the PC.

    2) I open a jpg file with #Pinta to add a brush stroke. When I want to save it, I get an error message. The only way to close Pinta is to choose "close without saving" - upon which not only my changes are gone, Pinta has also deleted the image file.
I have reported this as bug 2137414 bugs.launchpad.net/pinta/+bug/

Any helpful comments are appreciated - I'm still relatively new to #linux.

  7. I chat with, whom I will call, an artist and asked what tools he used for his projects. During this conversation, I was informed of an application called #FireAlpaca and it's free to boot. And it works flawlessly on #Linux due to being an #Appimage. This might be the 'upgrade' I need from #Pinta. :sickmeme:

  9. My favorite part of #Mastodon is the ability to follow #hashtags. In this case, #Cosytober2025. I get to see others who are participating with the #artist @RosieSoCosy who is spear heading the challenge. I'm by no means an 'artist', but I can still make attempts at these prompts while using a #Linux paint program called #Pinta. This will be a good use of my time and will share my creations with others who are also following this hashtag. Thanks Rosie for this idea. I can't wait to see more. ❤️

Element Web and Desktop add redesigned room list with new filters & clearer notifications:
    alternativeto.net/news/2025/9/
(I mean, I kinda like the new design, but why did they remove grouping by default, e.g. DMs, system alerts and low priority rooms listed separately from other rooms? It doesn't make much sense to me.)

Zen Browser 1.16b brings enhanced URL bar, command bar actions & updated Firefox 143 base:

Odysee removed LBC bid option from the text/file upload pages (when editing an existing post, the option is still there)
    (No article about it)
(So they finally started their migration away from LBRY, and embrace the Arweave ecosystem, with the new crypto service which requires a separate account, doesn't seem that trustworthy... I mean, it's ok for me, as long as they allow to upload content without it, I'll just ignore it. Not sure how content promotion will work though, e.g. will my content still appear on the top of the Tech category, but if not, I'll rather take the loss of views, than registering a crypto service which I can't find the source code of, can't really trust (in case you're a new viewer, the Fossery Tech project stands for FOSS, only uses FOSS for everything, except for a few OS drivers and news sites). If they decide to restrict uploads, I'll probably make a separate LBRY channel.)
