  3. Ubuntu Fast-Tracks AppArmor Fix for Flatpak Apps Failing to Start in Ubuntu

The recent update to AppArmor to fix issues with 3rd-party apps unable to run on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS due to its security hardening inadvertently prevents a fleet of popular Flatpak apps from running. The Telegram Desktop, KeePassXC, and Steam clients are among Flatpak apps affected, some throwing an apparmor="DENIED" error apparently due to the AppArmor profile for the Bubblewrap sandboxing tool (used by many Linux apps) in the prior update. To be clear: snap, DEB, and binary versions of the software above aren’t affected, only Flatpaks. But good news: Ubuntu’s developers got to work to identify the cause, aided by :sys_more_orange:

  7. ‘Rnote’ is an Impressive Freehand Note Taking App Built in Rust & GTK4

Rnote is a seriously impressive freehand note taking app written in Rust and GTK4. I came across it on Flathub this week and, within seconds of installing it, I knew I had to give it a bit of a spotlight. If you’ve got a laptop with a stylus or touch-enabled screen and you use GNOME Shell you have to try it out. Rnote is billed by its developer as a “simple note taking application written in Rust and GTK4”. I spent about 20 minutes playing around with it (albeit with a mouse as primary input) and it’s really quite polished :sys_more_orange:

  9. Annotator is a Slick Annotation Tool for Linux Desktops

Sometimes I want to annotate an image quickly, but without loading up a full-blown image editing app like The GIMP. Today I found an amazing app that lets me do just that. Annotator by Trevor Williams is something of a cross between the macOS Preview app (which has powerful markup tools built-in) and FOSS-fave Shutter. Indeed, until now, my go-to tool for annotating images on Linux is Shutter (or Flameshot, though it can only annotate screenshots you take using it), though its UI is a little dated and a few features are missing. So when I saw Annotator on the :sys_more_orange:

  12. ‘Mousai’ is Song Recognition App for Linux

Next time you want to identify a song you hear in a TV show, movie, or other video give Mousai a go. Mousai by SeaDve is a song recognition app for Linux desktop (and named after the ancient Greek Goddess of song and music). Built in GTK and leveraging the AudD song recognition API, Mousai is basically Shazam for Linux. Open Mousai, hit the ‘listen’ button, play the song you want to identify (ideally in vague proximity to your laptop’s microphone) wait a few seconds, and bam: it tells you the song name and who performs it. The app is :sys_more_orange:

But with and there is an annoying issue that prevent me to use them. Both apps open files in read-only mode, so you can't save and reuse anything 😖 .
