Hm, just noticed #Foliate recognizes hjkl but not wasd. Why the prejudice? 😂

* L'édition d'epub : #Sigil (https://sigil-ebook.com/)Je ne connais pas d'alternative pour la gestion d'une bibliothèque.

I was having (more) trouble with the Foliate Flatpak. It wouldn't go past the acknowledgements page in two books. Just a blank "page" that won't advance after that.
I started the Flatpak in a terminal to see what messages I got when this happened. Webkit was crashing.
After searching the message, the advice was to turn off hyphenation in Foliate.
That fixed the problem.

I'm hoping that allowing the Foliate Flatpak to access my home directory via Flatseal is enough to stop the e-reading software from losing its connection to the books I add to it.

I love reading Books. I love reading physical books, you know the ones that you hold in your hand. I love Foliate, which I have encountered on one of my Open Source operating system distributions.
Since I love reading physical books it was normal and natural for me that Foliate had a regular light theme because paper is white to light yellow.
The light theme was chosen even though my desktop had a dark team, also logical.
Now I was fortunate enough to get a free set of fantastic books which are accessible through a DRM walled system by Amazon. Their closed Source clients did the following infuriating thing.
When it started it up, kindle gave a brief warning that it was going to change something which turned out to be the theme which it brought to dark, and I have not found the easily accessible option to change it back to the light theme.
How Bad a programmer must you be, to change something as important as a theme in a ebook reader and not put easily accessible option to change it back.
I know what I'll do; I'm going to strip the DRM of the books, so that I can read them in my normally programmed Open Source eBook reader, which doesn't change the theme at all, especially not for no apparent logical reason
Grrr

While it's not helping to improve my almost non-existant Latin comprehension, I'm really enjoying reading Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose" with #Foliate
It's a fun book for medieval schismatic tangents.
I've been kind of high on this #epub reader for a few months now; but, I love having an in-line pop up window for a dictionary, wiki, and translate.

QUE PROGRAMA RIDÍCULO!
Não dá para mudara ordem dos livros ali na "prateleira", eles ficam fixos na ordem que você abriu.

I appreciate the info. Thank you. But, honestly, I don't have the cycles to start looking at #Nix
I've been running #KeePassXC without issue for ~4+ years as an app-image w/broswer integration.
IF #Foliate runs well enough(& I like it) on flatpak AND the migration of KeePassXC works as I'm used to THEN I'll drop the app-image & ride with flatpak for awhile.
(This is me totally ignoring my pyenv/pipx, rbenv, cargo, & node package mgmt installs...🤣 oh & Vim Plugins...)
-
Was unable to build the latest, greatest release of #Foliate from source, late last night, on my #Debian stable box(outdated gjs).
So, I made the leap to install & re-visit #Flatpak (wasn't ready to flip the system over to testing @2 AM...😄 )
See how I like it this week & perhaps ditch Calibre/Evince & possibly move my #KeePassXC app-image over to Flatpak

Seems like the orange site has gotten hep to my new, sorta-kinda favorite e-book reader...😉

I am giving #GhostBSD a try in a VM, and so far it's pretty good.
The desktop is MATE, which I've never used before (though I was a GNOME 2 user in the pre-Shell days).
You can't get a *really* good feel in a GNOME Boxes VM, but everything seems to work really well and is very responsive.
I installed Foliate (ebook reader), which runs pretty well, except for crashing when you try to change themes. It's not a deal-breaker to start it up again, and the new theme is then active.
My go-to image editor is gThumb, and I installed and gave it a try. Works perfectly.
Since it's in a VM, I can't test out the suspend/resume, which is usually something to look for.
These days OpenBSD is more reliable in terms of suspend and shutdown than Fedora with GNOME, where I get a *won't shutdown/resume* glitch every few tries. I might try GhostBSD on bare metal, and then I'll have more to say about that.
But overall GhostBSD seems to be very solid -- and is probably the easiest way to get a full-featured BSD desktop out of the box.

@workingclassgames @kuekerino Calibre is great to organize and convert e-books but to read them I would suggest a another free open source software, with a better UX/UI : Foliate 📖

Stumped...
according to #Epubcheck the #epub is all good, once I eliminated the unicode characters from the filename...that made it a lot less of a faff.
and still #foliate refuses to open them, ah well...I need some zzzz's, so I will come back at this problem another time. #linux #epubs -

@tuxmachines #Foliate has a really nice UI but it's also REALLY slow. Every one who likes Foliate should also try #FBReader this works also on linux mobiles - for the configuration it's good to have a bt mouse - but it's MUCH faster and i use(d) it on even a #Nokia #N810 with 128mb ram and 400mhz. This setup is even faster than foliate on a #Librem5 - and yes, i use #FBReader also on the @purism device ;) why not creating a new fancy ui for #FBReader?!
