  1. I now have a #HomeAssistant automation that updates my Mastodon profile when I start playing a video game. It changes the avatar to the game's cover art, changes the display name to "Manu is playing 🎮" and adds an extra field with the game title.

For now only when I play on Xbox but as PlayStation is my preferred console, I will add it there too if I'm satisfied with the outcome.
Maybe instead of the avatar I change the header picture. Not sure about that yet.

  5. In some parts of #HomeAssistant I mixed YAML and Jinja2.

Today, in #ESPHome, I mixed YAML with C/C++.

Hard to tell which was worse.

  10. One of the favourite things I got for my #homelab is the #homeassistant green (home-assistant.io/green/). The device and support are great. It even allowed me to have Uptime Kuma (uptimekuma.org/) installed right on it. Together with installing Glances (github.com/nicolargo/glances) on all machines and using its rest api for monitoring I suddenly have full visibility. Currently still using Pushover for notifications until I can use #signal for it ... pretty please :)

  20. I experimented with Claude and Home Assistant to update my dashboard with network monitoring cards for my Unifi router and access points.

I also asked Claude to document the process in a blog post at lab.schoonens.nl/posts/homeass for future reference.

  26. Very much enjoying that you need to use Zigbee2MQTT to get decent zigbee support for devices you want to use in Home Assistant and that the link between Home Assistant and Zigbee2MQTT is as coherent and stable as ol’ Musky on a ketamine binge.

    Yes, “enjoying”.

  31. I've released version 0.2.0 of the E-Ink Dashboard for Home Assistant. I had a lot of duplicate code PIL renderer in the backend and canvas renderer in the frontend. I found a solution to only have onc: SVG Jinja templates! A browser can display SVG and I can rasterize them for E-Ink Displays. Also the widget are a bit nicer now.

  45. Can anyone recommend a good Thread Border Router to connect Matter over Thread capable devices with #homeassistant?
On the other end would be (for now) mostly IKEA sensors and maybe a shellys (if I don't want to put them on the WiFi, not sure yet).

  50. #HomeAssistant allows to send data to external displays. All those OpenEpaper, OpenDisplay, ESPHome etc integrations.

But only raw data. There is no way to do things like "generate this dashboard/card to a picture".

Which results in recreating stuff over and over again. And AGAIN.

    fsck.
